Got a question for you blacktail guys. I have looked at tons of "blacktail" pics on here and other sites. I have seen many bucks from Cali, Oregon, And Washington. I grew up in SW washington and there are many pics of "blacktail" in different states that do not look like the deer on the coast of Washington. Now I know that there are the columbia river blacktail or "benchlegs" I know that there are the sitka blacktail in Alaska but are the deer on the coast of Washington in the same category as the blacktail deer in California? I just have seen so many pics of "blacktail" deer that are huge and don't have the same horn characteristics as the deer that I am use to seeing. Can anyone help with this? Thanks in advance

LAST EDITED ON Aug-01-10 AT 10:55PM (MST)[p]IdahoSmitty theres a dvd thats been out for a while. I believe its called Blacktail Fever and it gos over what your asking. Maybe someone out there can give the correct name of the DVD. quest

Smitty the deer are of the same species in washington, oregon and northern CA. I think the main difference in what you are seeing is terrain. I know a lot of CA bucks that grow very wide and in more open terrain than say the dark timbered forest of washington.
