looking to hunt both species 2011. looking for some info on where would be a good place to hunt, pricing, odds of tags, any weapon. can anyone point me in the right direction?

most all tags in Oregon are OTC. Lots of ground to hunt too.

im going to Kokiak in 2011 over thanksgiving for sitka BT deer. we are going on a chartered trip. should be fun. can shoot up to 3 deer.

not sure this helps much but if you want to hunt columbia BT's that should be east to do. Very tough animal to kill tho. tougher than a WT IMO.

ive never hunted wt. only muleys in utah. trying to fill a list of critters i wanna kill before i have my knees replaced in a couple years. will be all diy as well. any info helps, thank you!

i have not hunted them for 15 years. I wish i could help you more but dont know enough to help. Just to give you hope! all you need is a place to go, the rest is easy as far as getting the tag and the amount of public land. Im sure someone can give you a good starting area.

You could look at a map and find public ground and just go and you will probably find some deer. we use to hunt the clear cuts on timber land. i hear that the timber companies lock it up for fire danger quite a bit now a days.. Helps the hunting when its crappy weather too.

OTC blacktails in OR is very doable. Contact local Fish and Wildlife in say Douglas County, Or. There is plenty of public land, with good clear cuts to hunt. Try to time it towards the end of the season, late Oct or early Nov, to hit the rut.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-10-10 AT 00:52AM (MST)[p]I just got back from Alaska less than a month ago. I took my girlfriend and my three kids. I flew to Ketchikan ($575), rented a vehicle ($550), ferried it and us to Prince of Wales ($137 + $30 per person), bought food in Craig ($300). Tags are $150 and you can get four bucks. Went to our Forest Service cabin ($120 for 6 nights). Hunted from Nov 7th to the 12th. We saw a million blacktails. They were everywhere!! We saw three and four-points every day.
I spent under $5000 for five people,(not counting tags).I would highly recomend a hunt like this!

longbow thay sounds like a great time and very affordable!! thays a great starting point on info for me.

ive got a hookup in oregon on 200 acres right across the highway from the coastal range... so? is how is hunting in the coastal range. i know its a big area...

It depends where you are at. Where abouts are you hooked up at? The coastal range can be very brushy. 200 acres is a good start. Just hit the rut and you will be fine!

Orion and NVMDF you two should meet. NVMDF is a very good friend of mine. And to Shon, Orion is going to Kodiak with Mark this year to hunt blacktail. Small world eh!

Hey Bob,
thought you were in Mexico with Patrick? It is a small world, Mark asked me to go with them. To many hunts, not enough time!

Wet and can be thick. That would be a great chance though. The coast has some nice blacktails.

LAST EDITED ON May-31-11 AT 03:35PM (MST)[p]Hunting in NW Oregon is a crap shoot any more. HLS has really hit the animals hard. They finally cut the doe tags by 65% they need to go to zero. Your best bet is Southern Oregon on private ground. BT hunting in the Northwest Oregon is nothing like it used to be. We are hard pressed to find deer on Timber lands any more. I have been hunting the same area for over 40 years so I have a pretty good idea about what I am talking about.

If there is any proof of a man in a hunt it is not whether he killed a deer or elk but how he hunted it.
