Here is the 4x2 that scored 152. Louie said the pictures don't make it look like a 152, but I can't imagine when you are getting paid $10,000 (!!!!!!) for this buck that you would miss score it! Yes, I did say $10k and here is the breakdown on that ranch.... $6500 for the hunt. $1500 for A kill. $1,000 if it scores over 130 SCI. An additional $1000 if it scores over 140 SCI.
...I really don't see it, but I will take their word for it!
I know I would shoot it!!
Have a great weekend.

This was the text I got in an email along with these pictures. What do you think??

That is one heck of a blacktail hybrid, I'm assuming? 152 is a big blacktail, and I don't see it. I could be wrong, and don't get me wrong, I would hammer that buck! Just not for 10,000!!

Perhaps as a 4x4. But still a great looking buck. I also can't see myself paying $10K for a blacktail, but if you have the money then knock yourself out.

>For $10,000 more I'd tell him
>it was 200".

Nice blacktail. But 152? If that great buck is ONE HUNDRED and FIFTY TWO inches then my junk is TWELEVE inches in the velvet stage!

Well, maybe if you score the 4 pt side...double it & add inside spread, add price credit, and guide tip allocation.......140

Had to be an Arrow 5 buck at that cost. Hard to imagine some of the money people through at this sport. But if you have it why not use it.

People pay 150K plus for a mule deer. It's all about willing seller/willing buyer.

That's a heck of a nice buck! I would want at least a second independant measurement on the 152 score though. I think the person who measured it worked for the rancher.

Very nice Blacktail. Congradulations to the hunter......and to the landowner!

I personally couldn't see spending that kind of money for even the trespass fee. But we all know how strong of an addiction hunting can be! You couldn't buy the ranch or even pay the taxes on that place in Cali for $10k/yr (unless it has been in the family for a while). If that buck was running around on my place and someone offered me that kind of money to shoot it, we might be able to work out a deal.

Have you priced duck club memberships lately? It's all relative. When I look at that pic I think "....well, that's justification for higher education".

If you are able to kill a good buck on public land or have to access private land without that kind of pricetag, you should never take for granted how fortunate you are. (Hmmm...I wonder how much a Goodale tag would be worth?!?)

They probably are scoring that buck SCI. I could see it close to 150" scored that way. If he's a true blacktail, he's a monster!

10K has been and always will be way out of my price range but this guy seems to be pleased so good on him. Times have changed more and more. Many of our larger, trophy quality game animals in the future will come with a heavy price tag.

I'm glad that i was part of it back when hunting was for those who just wanted to hunt and a decent place to do so was just for the asking.

"$1,000 if it scores over 130 SCI. An additional $1000 if it scores over 140 SCI."

THIS SCORE IS BASED ON SCI.....NOT B&C.

Dingo - As you know I have a G-3 tag and between you and I.. Paul Crawford offered me $35.00 and all the Bud Light I can drink..

I'm thinkin' I can get at least $50.00

Those ears are way too big for a blacktail, as was alluded in an earlier post, hybrid maybe, pure blacktail no.

Did you notice the buck eyes, the white oaks and the marijuana growing in the background? Definately 100% coastal blacktail. The summer coat makes it look shabby. I love that buck even if it is a 4x2.

I think one of the open zone deer tags went for 5500.00 so a gooddale tags worth all most half of this buck.

LAST EDITED ON Oct-16-11 AT 08:58AM (MST)[p]That would be a hard decision for me to go after blacktail or mule deer.

Neat looking buck......too bad they didn't measure him using the B&C scoring method.......would have saved him $2000.00. :)

Nice buck for a true Blacktail for sure..
I doubt he paid 10k for a 4x2? every ranch we run a 4x2 is a management buck in this case a trophy management buck.

Truly a nice heavy blacktail, but I would think even with all that mass he would have a hard time making book. Even SCI which is basically gross hard to see this buck over 140"

Don't shoot til your ready!

I sold a trespass fee for $500 this year on my property in Molalla Oregon. There's a 4X3 130+" running around. He ended up taking a whopping forky. Next year the price will be $9,999 I guess :)

Looks like I'm in the wrong business. I'll sell someone a hunt for a 4x2 blacktail for 2k. I'll even let you come shoot a 130+ 4x4 for 5k. Only one downfall, I'm a half mile on the wrong side of the highway, so it can't be scored as a B&C blacktail. Lol.

$6500 for the hunt.
$1500 for A kill.
$1,000 for a score over 130 SCI.
An additional $1000 for scoring over 140 SCI.

Getting your name in the SCI Book - Priceless!!! (WAFJ)

Boy all you pictures scorers are experts. These guys score more bucks in a year than most of you will score in a lifetime.I usually do fairly well in these picture scoring contests and this is what I come up with
right horn 74 left horn 56 inside spread 22 total 152 close to what they have?

if he was the same on both sides id say 152, his forks are shallow on his 4 point side and he only gets 2 mass measurements on his 2 point side if im not mistaken, and thats if that browtine is more than an inch, which is questionable. that would mean his main beam would have to be 25 inches and his main back would have to be 18 and his 2 mass measurements would have to be 6'' a piece, im seriously doubting and id like to see the guide bet his guide liscense on it. my muley i just shot has a right antler of 73 and a left of 74 4/8

hmm if thats the case than perhaps your right then, im no expert scorer by any means and i dont mean to come off as snobbish either. its an absolute brute of a blacktail and putting a score on it doesnt change the actual size of it so i try not to put too much stock into score. personally IMHO i feel like if i saw that rack on a deer i wouldnt put it anywhere close to 152, but i will say that whether it be fish or animals i feel as though for the most part pictures dont do them justice, congratulations to the hunter by any means
