Just received this picture today from a friend who got it from another former co-worker of ours. It was actually a postcard and was sent to someone back then. This is not a "photoshop" fellas. In fact, this very old bar was about 15 miles outside of the town I grew up in here. I bought my first case of beer here back when I was 16 years old....went inside with old dirty clothes on make my self look older.....LOL

This Buck hung out around the bar/cabin there as the old man & his wife lived there all year long and fed him and other deer too.
Then came the mid-late 60's and none other than the FAMOUS MURDERER...CHARLES MANSON AND HIS BUNCH showed up around there. They were run out of the Geysers Resort by the old man there that owned the bar/rooms and steam bath house...with a double barrel shotgun Old Man Curry pulled up from behind the bar.

So Charlie and his bunch headed back down towards Mercuryville and stopped there and drank beer and then refused to pay so the story goes, so Charlie and some others came back later that night and burned down the whole building...bar and all. They headed to LA area and the rest is history down there.

Thought a story would go good with this picture.

That's an interesting bit of history...dark as it is. Charlie is quite a guy. It always makes me wonder how anyone like that could have "followers".

Thanks for the cool photo Mr Kilo,
Zeke

Too bad Charlie did not push the issue with the bar owner and got both barrels in his scrawnly chest. Would have saved many lives in the future. Great story Kilo, a little bit of history about those backwoods tough guys.

Any body that feeds deer and threatens to shoot hippies is a good guy with common sense.

Cool pic. Too bad Charlie wasn't cut down that night. Would have saved a whole lot of lives.
