All these shots were in Bulb Mode using a remote. If you find yourself getting into night photography, you will really need to look into a camera with Bulb Mode. 30 second exposures are great and you can do alot with that, but if you want to get into star trails and other stuff, 30 seconds will only get you so far. In fact, it takes about 30 seconds before you can actaully see the stars "move". You could get into "stacking" multiple 30 second images but you'd need to get some good editing software.

Night photography is very, very cool and I wish I had more time to get out to do more. I don't know how old you are or where you live, but if you live in a fairly remote are you should be golden....I don't have that luxury. I'ts very fun to be able to load your picts up on the PC and see how they turn out.

Best wishes on your night stuff and Practice, practice, practice. PM me if you have any specific questions.

LAST EDITED ON Jan-14-12 AT 07:32AM (MST)[p]I've wanted to spend the time to do some more night photography, but it is still on my to do list. Here's one I took during the Virgin River flooding in St. George, Utah in December 2010. Thirty second exposure.

This was taken New Years Eve.
25sec, ISO100, f/5.6.
The moon was fairly bright, so I was able to reduce the ISO and close the aperture some.

Caught this about an hour before sunrise the morning before when both the stars were still visible.
