Camera adaptor

I have recently acquired a Leupold Gold Ring 12-40X60 HD spotting scope which I would like to digiscope with. My main use for this scope is hunting but I would like to take pictures as well while afield. I currently have a Kodak Z1012IS camera. I'm looking for some help on finding an adaptor to easily fit my current setup. The spotting scope I have did not come with the Leupold camera adaptors. I have also been unable to find any local Leupold dealers who sell the adaptors for trial/testing. Any suggestions and help is greatly appreciated.

I don't think that camera would make a good digiscoping camera. 12x is to much zoom. It should be 5x or less to work good. I have the leupold adapter and it works good. I use it with the zeikos camera adapter and a small point and shoot.

Thanks Maverick, just out of curiosity, what camera are you using? I'll look for the Zeikos adaptors during my next trip to the camera shop.

It's not the optical zoom number that matters at all. It's the diameter of the lens and size of sensor.

Small point and shoot camera's have a small sensor and small diameter lens that sees completely inside the eye piece and tube of the scope at almost all zoom levels. When you go with a bigger sensor and thus a larger diameter lens, it can't see past the tube of the scope without zooming way in to 12x and even more.

If you try to digiscope with a large sensor dslr through the eye piece of a scope the lens see's equally around the eyepiece vs. inside and you end up with tiny round image in the center of a black frame.

Take your scope down to Best Buy and test it out with a number of camera's and you'll see what I mean. The larger the diameter of the lens the more zoom power it needs to have to see past the tube of the scope. Meaning it needs to have a narrow enough field of view to see only the inside diameter of the scope's objective lens.

The three best cams I've ever tried for digiscoping are the Sony WX5, WX9 and WX150's. Perfect size sensor and lens with exceptional video capability. The results are truly jaw dropping.

Check out Bugleboy's video's with one of those cams.

I use a Canon HS 100 for my point and shoot. I also use my DSLR with a 50MM lens on a Vortex Razor. It works great from 20x to 60x with no vignetting. I think the video from the point and shoot cameras turn out better than pics do most of the time. Then you can take a frame from the vid and turn it into a pic later.

Thanks for the info c3 & Maverick. c3, I understand what you are talking about. I have already tried using my "setup" more than a few times and it is tough to get it aligned and focused for a decent photo. I will look into getting a different camera just to pair up with my scope. We have a Best Buy locally so I'll head down there to test out cameras.

you can get that zeikos adaptor on amazon.com for like $15 save yourself driving all over the place trying to find one. Its a pretty specialized lttle trinket.
