One has to enjoy this time of fall when the aspens are turning and the elk are bugling. This past Saturday I hiked up into the Inner Basin on the San Francisco Peaks near Flagstaff to photograph the changing aspens. A coupe of bull elk were bugling before sunrise, but only one remains as one succumbed to an early rifle hunter from Nevada. Congratulations to him.

A view of the Inner Basin, the well houses for Flagstaff's water pipeline and morning's red light on Agassiz.

The hike back down the trail took a few hours as I spent considerable time in a colorful aspen grove.

There were many people on the trail Saturday enjoying the splendor. I think that by next weekend, many leaves in Lockett Meadow and Inner Basin will have fallen, but the slopes near SnowBowl on the west face of the peaks will be getting colorful. I presume that the White mountains in eastern Arizona are getting prime also.
