Being a novice with cameras, pictures have good quality at a distance? The one I have now, takes good pictures but unless the animal is close the look like dots in the distance.

With the amount of zoom and the fact that the lens has a large aperture the animal can be zoomed to enlarge it quite a bit appearing quite large or more life size in the photo.
