I happened upon a 26" number 3 stainless steel Douglass barrel 1 in 9 twist for 7mm. I have never used Douglass barrels. Like to hear your thoughts??? Is this a good barrel?
Thank you

Maybe muzz.
I was thinking about a 7mm wsm or 7mm 08. This would be for a build down the road, but you know how things go.

LAST EDITED ON Mar-17-14 AT 01:17AM (MST)[p]You wont see many in competition but they are a good barrel, I've owned several and they all produced acceptable accuracy. If you didnt own it already I might of suggested others instead,as I've noticed douglas tends to lose its accuracy at a faster pace than some of the others i prefer...I dont judge a barrel solely on its initial accuracy, I judge them by how they hold that accuracy and longevity.

There are two top notch gunsmiths I know of that prefer them, one is Mickey Colman, he uses them as his in house barrel..The other is Melvin Forbes of NULA..So thats a pretty good endorsement I guess.

IMO, most barrels these days are pretty dang good, so the biggest factor in accuracy is the gunsmith getting it plumbed correctly.

I've also never heard of a reputable barrel maker that wouldnt replace a bad barrel if a gunsmith told them it was bad(this means within reason, not 100 rounds later)..Every maker turns out a lemon every now and again, but most of them will stand behind their product if/when it does happen.

1 in 9 is for the heavier (longer) 7mm bullets. Would work great w/ new Nosler Long Range Accubond in 168 or 175 grains. It'll shoot.
