I ordered a Savage, 116, Weather Warrior in 7mm WSM a couple of days ago.

Can't wait to get the gun, mount a scope, load some bullets and see what it does.

My question is how do you guys "condition" a barrel??

I've done it a couple of ways, read some other ways but want to hear what the MMers do.

Thanks

Another question. I'm looking at putting a Zeiss Conquest HD5 scope on it. A 3-15X. The scope's weight is realistic for the power.

I want to get comfortable enough with this gun to shoot long range with it, hopefully 500-600 yards. The HD5 has the ability to order custom turrets with it.

Is this a good option? The scope costs about 35% more than the gun. I'm good with that, might even go a little higher if it's worth it. But I won't put a $2,000.00-3,000.00 scope on it. Just can't justify it.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-05-14 AT 00:33AM (MST)[p]I made a mistake!! The Savage Weather Warrior is not availbile in the 7 WSM.

I went to pick the gun up Monday and immediately noticed it was a long action. I looked at the barrel and it said 7mm Rem. Mag. I told my friend that ordered it for me. He apologized and said he misunderstood me. I almost took it but we decided I wanted a short action so he would exchange it. Later that night he called and said Savage didn't offer the 7mm WSM in that gun. Apparently they offer the .270 WSM and .30 WSM in that gun, but not the 7mm.

I picked it up the next day and am pretty stoked to get going. It's a Savage Weather Warrior with the Accu-stock and Accu-trigger (standard) in 7mm Rem Mag. I already load for the .338 so am familiar with this case. I want to do this right so these are my questions:

1) How do you guys condition a barrel?

2) What are your opinions on the Zeiss 3X15 scope. Don't remember the exact model#.

3) And I'm thinking a 150 gr Accubond or Barnes would be the perfect longer range bullet for this gun/caliber, thoughts?

All opinions are welcome and will be considered.
