Target arrow tips

My kid has just started re-shooting archery in 4H. Today, I buy new arrows and then glue the tips on, at about 4p. At about 6p, the tips were coming off at the range....as a side note, when I got home, I grabbed the remaining ones, and pulled em all out w/pliers and the glue was still wet (maybe the main problem).

One of the instructors noted that my tips have a mushroom bulge on them, just above the base (the bulge is maybe a 1/16" total, but probably half of that). He recommended getting tips that are the same size as the base as they are theoretically easier to pull out.

What do you think?

Hopefully you have fixed the arrows by now but in case you have not, most inserts are not truly set up for about 24 hrs. Up till then its not uncommon for the inserts to pull out. Also you may try hot melt glue instead. I have had decent luck with it in gold tips. As for the field tip diameter, you definitely want to match the diameter of the shaft. Otherwise you will end up pulling out those inserts in dense bag or foam targets due to the extra resistance due to the oversized tips.

Hope that helps.

I had a couple of inserts pull out after shooting on a couple arrows after a few years. My archery shop had me reinstall the inserts with superglue since I didn't have the original epoxy that came with the inserts. Been shooting them for a couple years now and the superglue seems to have worked fine.

As for your target tips. It is not the best setup to have your target points larger than your arrow shaft diameter. It is as previously stated (1) arrows will pull out harder and (2) the slight difference in size also over repeated shots will cause extra wear on your foam target. If anything, it would be better for the target tip to be slightly smaller if you can't purchase the correct flush smooth target points for those arrows IMO.
If you have any other questions I can I can help with PM me I don't always pull up this forum .

I just use a hot glue gun to install my inserts and have had no trouble with them pulling out of the shafts at all.

I also use the exact field tips you're using and really like them. I believe Gold Tip designed the heads to make them easier to pull out of targets. The slight bulge in them is designed so that as the field tip goes into the target, the so called wound channel is bigger than the arrow shaft itself. Therefore the arrow itself has less friction on it as it's pulled from the target. Hope this makes sense and helps with your issue.
