Winchester model 52 question

I have a model 52 Winchester with "C" as the last letter on the serial number.

What are the more valuable letters? I ask because I have a line on a "B". I love everything about the one I have and wouldn't mind another to play with or build upon. If there is a link where I can learn more about them, please post it.

Thanks

Hi, the Winchester Model 52 started being made in 1919 thru 1937.

The 52-B with re-designed action was made from 1935 thru 1947.

The 52-C with more action re-design and different trigger mechanism was made from 1947-1961.

As you probably already know, there were several options available in each model, International match, bull barrel, heavy barrel,...

In a old Gun Traders guide i'm looking at, in just the regular "bolt action target rifle" from the 3 different periods, the 52-C is listed as the most valuable.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-22-14 AT 08:12PM (MST)[p]Thanks for the help guys. I think I will hold off of the purchase, I really don't think it would be smart right now. The one I have I inherited from my dad and is quite the rifle. The trigger is to die for.

That rimfire site has some good info.

How much are they asking for the one you have a line on and what is it?

I ask because as a youngster, my friend had a old 52 and i got to shoot it quite a bit at ground squirrels and such. I don't go to gun shows and the like but still, in all my years, i've never been offered a deal on a model 52 even though i've wanted one from those days long ago.

If it's reasonable and you can, you might want to pick it up as a investment, if nothing else.

Long story short- I was at the range and started talking to an old timer that made the switch to rimfires. I had my ol mans model 52 and he took great notice in it. He also noticed I shoot left-handed. He started talking about his model 52 he picked up at a gun show, brought it out and let me shoot it. It is a left-handed single shot 52 and had the best check weld I ever felt. I tried to make a deal on it right there but, he would not have anything to do with it. He really wanted to trade for my dads 52.
I grew up in the small town where this guy lives and we use the same gunsmith. I called the gunsmith today and let him know I might still be interested and he said he already heard about it and would talk to him. I'm still interested in the rifle but, the price has to be right, it was not a flawless rifle.

Sounds like you are doing good with it. Left handed model ends my desires. Good luck and thanks, threads like this give most of us a chance to learn something!
