Hey guys in the market for a new .30 06. I am looking for something light weight to make it easier on the backcountry hunts go on (on foot, not horses).

Any thoughts?

I am looking at the Tikka t3 lite and superlite.

I want something to be my hunting partner for the next 30 years.

"You sure you know how to skin grizz,
pilgrim?"

Tikka t3 are a pretty good deal for lightweight rifle. Other option is to buy a used rem 700 and buy a lightweight aftermarket stock like a BC ti or McMillan edge.

"Next 30 years" to me means no tikka tacky stuff.

Look for an 84L kimber lightly used.

Or buy a 700, slap it in a TI BC or used McMillan, properly bed, trigger job and extractor work if you feel the need, the rem will be bulletproof with some minor tweeks, and they can be done for around or under 800 if you put some effort in scouring the parts.

A GOOD HUNTING RIFLE IS ALL ABOUT FUNCTION & ACCURACY, NOBODY CARES HOW GOOD YOUR PET RIFLE LOOKS IN THE GUN CABINET. .........................YD.

If you are in the market for a standard caliber (30-06) buy a Kimber, Mt. Ascent 84L. They are well built, light weight, and accurate - no mods or tinkering necessary.

look at the howa 1500 with Hogue stock , I have one in 300wsm it comes in around 4.5 lbs with scope

I have a tikka t3 30-06, my groups at 100yds are stacked
I am not easy on that rifle. somewhat abuse it and I think it will last me quite a while.
Bolt is smooth and trigger is crisp. Go shoot one, you won't regret it
