Looking at the Tikka t3 "compact" in a 7mm-08 for the wife and kiddos to hunt with next year. Anybody checked one out yet??

We picked up a T3 in 270win. For our grandson. Nice, light, love the gun....but it has a recoil like a heavy magnum. Kid is small 12 yr. old. Off the bench the recoil would knock him back a foot. Had to upgrade the recoil pad to a deluxe soft pad the factory pad was nothing more than a piece of hard solid rubber. Then we put a KDF muzzle brake on it. Now you can shoot it all day because it has the recoil of a 20ga. Shotgun. Gun smith says lots of guys add weight inside the stock , using mercury but to me that defeats the purpose of purchasing a light weight rifle for someone that needs it. Muzzle brake, cutting stock , filling in hollow stock enough to accommodate pad screws add $500 to that rifle and now it is a shooter that can be enjoyed by the shooter. Very tight groups right out of the box. If you don't want to do the extra upgrade that I did. Find your wife a bit heavier rifle to limit the recoil.

Good shoot'n
