I sighted a gun in today at 50 yards... It was grouping tight, so I moved out to 200 to see how it was grouping at that distance. Here's the problem... At 50 it was high, but centered right To left... At 200 it's hitting 2.5 inches left of center in a 3/4 inch group... What the heck is going on? Usually I have a pretty good idea of what to do, but this one has me scratching my head...

New Scope?, check the rings and base mounting screws. It's grouping so IMO something has moved for some reason. If everything is tight then may be an issue inside the scope. I had one Weaver scope do that years ago.....drove me fricken crazy trying to figure out the problem.

Went out own bought Leupold from then on....

I'll bet it's canting... I had it level but then I moved it... I'll put my level back on and that should fix the problem. I'm glad I asked the experts... There's a reason they pay you guys the big bucks...
Thanks in advance!

50 yards is not sufficient distance for a sight in to tell where your gun is grouping at longer ranges. What you are seeing is not unusual at all, no need to look for possible problems at this stage. Make your adjustments to zero the gun at 200 yards. I get my rifles reasonably close to zero at 100 yards then move out to 200/250 to perfect zero.

As far as canting goes you would have to cant the gun quite a bit to move your bullet 2.5 inches at only 200 yards.

A few years back for a coyote rifle I went for a cheaper scope. It was the top of the line of the crappy scope company. Every time I would move the elevation. I would have to readjust the left to right. The thing wouldn't track right. So I learn my lesson, it's cheaper for a reason. But I cant believe you would be mounting up a cheap scope with your VIP logo?

Big John,
Nope its a good scope. Its a Vortex Viper HS LR 6-24x50 XLR... Its a good one... I think screwed up when I leveled it... My bad... I'll try it tomorrow and see.
