We finally pulled the trigger on a new tikka t3 in a 300 mag.
I don't like the scope rings that came with the gun. What would you guys suggest?
We have always used the one piece base like on a rem 700 but this is a different system .
Thanks in advance

LAST EDITED ON Nov-16-14 AT 06:16PM (MST)[p]Will those fit a T3? The T3 has a channel that the mounts clamp to . There is no down facing threaded holes . Am I missing something ?
I have the DNZ 's on my weatherby and love them but it is a total different mounting system on the tikka

The Tikka T3's have an unusual mounting system and use special size screw and threads on their provided mount. Plus the pinch mounting system width is an off size width that the few other mounts like this you can find WILL NOT fit on a T3
I purchased a Leupold VX2 in 50mm and the provided mounts did not allow the scope to be mounted back far enough and high enough to work properly.

I contacted Cabelas product specialist and got lucky. The guy had a T3.
So here's the deal:::::
Mfg. Warne , Maxima , two piece base and rings. Come in either medium or high base system. Only comes in Matt finish. For the Leuplod 50mm I had to use the high mount. Here is the Cabelas SCU # 70006385. Type in the search area on the Cabelas website to look at the mount. I was told that this was the only after market mount that would fit the T3. It is a nice strong mount.

Good Luck,

Mossy,

I have two T3's. The 30.06 has Talley lightweights and I have never had a problem with zero changing. The reason I went to Talleys was the factory mounts would allow my scope to slip.

I put DNZ's on my .223 and have also had no problems with them, I do like that they sit just a little lower than the Talley low mounts.

Bot the Talley and the DNZ mount will screw on to the top of the receiver. There are several black plastic 'plugs' (I don't remember how many) in the receiver top which are threaded, this is where they will mount, not a pinch like the factory mounts. When I pulled the plugs out they left some plastic residue and I couldn't get the machine screws started so I had a gunsmith friend of mine 'chase' the threads. I am very satisfied with both, if I were to do it over I probably would go with DNZ because they are one piece and sit lower.

Talley's on top, DNZ below.

mossy,

The receiver should look like this (image found on web) Four threaded holes and a recessed round lug. The plastic 'plugs' will screw out easily.

Yup, the DNZ lows work well on the Tikka, maybe not the sexiest bases/ring combo but they appear solid and easy to get dialed in.

Lumley Arms sell it, but I had it modified by Karl at Kampfeld Customs since I didn't like their knob so he installed his Campfire bolt knob -its more better:) YOu buy the bolt handle/knob from Lumley - its a titanium handle and pretty nice and the price isn't bad. Here is their knob which can be taken off. OEM on the right.

Wow guys it appears that there are serveral different style mountings for Tikka rifles. I would tave loved to have the one that was tapped and drilled with screws like shown in that pic. My Grandsons Tikka in 270win. was not tapped with screws. All we had was two groves on the top of the rifle where the mount basically had to grip the groves to attach to the rifle like the original post with the question. Wish we had your style mounting system.

I put Leupold bases and rings on mine. Working good so far.
the factory rings were the only thing I really disliked about the rifle.

My Grandson's T3 is only 2 years old. Purchased it in Nov. 2012. Caliber is 270win.
It has the rails on top for a pinch type base mounting system. It is not drilled and tapped like the pics above. It has a Matt. Finish....nice rifle shoots great but screwed scope mounting system.
