Just bought a Ruger 44 magnum semi auto with a 2-7 Nikon scope ,plan on using it on my next Michigan black bear hunt.I have been looking for one for a long time in good condition.I hunt from a tree stand over bait and this carbine should be perfect.I am excited with my new purchase.

Cool that should do the job. That 44 should really pack some wallop. Years back when we were at the range qualifying. One of the instructors showed us what the difference of muzzle velocity and added power just by lengthening the barrel. He used a 357mag revolver vs the 357 rifle not a 44mag.

At 50 yds he shot the revolver at an old heavy duty milk can. The bullet went into the can but did not exit. Then he shot the 357 rifle using the same exact cartridge type. With the rifle adding the barrel lenght increased the muzzle velocity allowing the powder to keep burning in the barrel longer. The rifle shot at 50yds was a through and through on the milk can :)

Have fun with your bad a$$ rifle. :)

I have had a 45 Long Colt in a lever action rifle for years in my gun stable... It of course does not have the horsepower of your 44 Mag but it has been on several bear hunts and I have taken five bears with it over the years. You will love your new gun.

jjones, if your lever action is built on the Winchester 1886,1892 or 1894 action. It is a strong action where you can load that 45 Colt to do everything that the 44 mag does. Just use the load data listed for "Ruger loads only".

If your lever action is built on the Win. 1873 action, that action has a weak toggle link and you should avoid hot Ruger loads with that rifle.
