We just picked up a couple of 10mm's. picked them up mostly as a sidearm when archery hunting. Anyone here ever shoot an animal with a 10mm. I picked up some 180gr. Hollow points figure that bullet weight should be ok. I wanted an auto rather than a wheel gun for the added mag. Capicity. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

I'm more of a revolver guy but if i were to go with a semi-auto, it would probably be a 10mm.

Is ammo for it reasonable and easy to get?

I am a big fan of the 10mm. Most factory ammo is very weak (think 40 s&w) compared to original 10mm specs. There are a couple small ammo companies that load the real stuff. For hunting skip the hollow points and go with a 200 grain flat nosed hard cast bullet loaded to 1200-1250fps. I hope you are a reloader. If you are shooting a glock get an aftermarket barrel such as lone wolf or kkm. You will want the supported chamber from those barrels for real 10mm ammo. You will also want a 22 lb. recoil spring for full power aammo.

The 3rd gen smiths are the most durable, the 1911's won't take as much abuse from full power ammo unless you have an LAR grizzly. The EAA/Tanfoglio has customer service problems and issues with their entry level guns. Run away from the Philippine 1911's in 10mm. Stick with 45 acp if you want to go that route. The 10mm was nearly dead at one time but it's seeing a revival and it's about time people figured it out.

There is a 10mm forum site that will answer pretty much anything else you need to know. I don't recall the name just Google 10mm forums.

Thanks guys, we picked up the Glock G20's in 10mm. Waited 8 months to get them due to Kali regs..."go figure".
I got on a 10mm website and found this ammo company recommended by the posters.
I picked up a ton of ammo through a small manufacture called Underwood Ammo. Read a bunch of reports and reviews of that company and their ammo. Private test Guys that chrono. The loads said that we're were above most big company numbers consistent at near 1400fps. Boxes of 50 were about $42.00 per box. For the 180gr. hollow points. Check them out at underwoodammo.com

Thanks for the input about upgrading the barrel and spring. I will eventually do that. We don't target shoot much at all because ammo is so hard to find. I have enough now that my Grandkids will have plenty to shoot...

Thanks again for the replies.

Oops made a mistake the numbers were around 1325fps-1340fps. On those 180gr. Hollow points. Wish I would have posted earlier, I would have taken your advise and went with the 200gr.

Sonny and Tubbs knew what they were doin...... The low power stuff is good for plinking. Shooting the full power stuff all the time aint cheap. Georgia Ammo has good deals on FMJ's for practice and they shoot to the same poi as the 180gr controlled expansion hollow points I get from Double Tap. Pigs dont like them in the side of their heads.

I know Sonny shot a 10mm. First a bren ten I believe and then a third gen smith. I thought Tubbs usually packed a j frame. I could be wrong I haven't seen that show for a long time.
