When i was in 7th grade, to my joy Santa brought me a new Mossberg model 500 pump 12 gauge shotgun. It weren't the fanciest gun around but i soon learned to be a fair shot with it and together, we kept the boots worn down and the freezer full enough. That was a good gun. I might have missed a time or a thousand but it always did it's job.

Joey,
I have an old old Marlin pump.

I've killed enough turkeys with it to
fill a dumpster.

My flying bird percentage is not
near that good.

When I was 12 years old we moved from town to the country with pretty much unlimited access to woods behind our house.

That Christmas I got a Benjamin .177 caliber pellet rifle. It was wrapped in green wrapping paper with snow men all over it. (I'll never forget that, lol)

That gun changed my life. I practically slept with that rifle. I remember trying to pump it as quietly as I could so I wouldn't scare off the wild pigeons that liked to sit in a big Alder tree in the back yard. Most of the time I missed but a few times I got feathers.lol

It's written in the good Book that we'll never be asked to take more than we can. Sounds like a good plan, so bring it on!

My first rifle was a Rem. 742 semi-auto in 30/06. Weaver scope. Have had it for 51 years now. Still my favorite out of all our rifles. Someday one of my Great Grandson's will be shoot'n it.

Thanks for the replies guys! For some, maybe getting the gift of a means to hunt or target shoot at a young age is no big deal but then there are folks like us. I like how Eel put it, "That gun changed my life"

Mine too! :)
