anyone having any luck getting the ABLRs to fly? im shooting a factory remington 700. if i shoot 210g bergers + retumbo at max COAL, it punches 4 or 5 leaf clovers at 100. I only swapped the bullet and im getting 3-4" at 100. i had about the same luck with the ABLRs out of a 270wsm...so far, im underwhelmed w/ the accubonds.

All those bullet types require you to find the sweet spot, takes a little more work w/ seating depth. Berger addresses it w/ some good advice on their website.

One of the problems with the new high BC bullets is that you cannot seat the bullet where it needs to be, for best accuracy, and still get it into your magazine.
Going off "book" OACL will NEVER produce the best!
Therein lies the rub with LR bullets in rifles with magazines.

That may be true in some factory rifles especially the RUM with its freebore. I setup my barrels to touch lands and fit the magazine always.

Lipcurl- I would load them as long as magazine length allows and will still cycle which is probably 3.650 or a little longer.

Yes Mr Cahunter805,
IF you have an aftermarket or custom barrel it is possible and very desirable to make sure you can "find" the lands before you run out of magazine length.

My suspicion is that many of the shooters here use factory rigs and far too often the max OACL is controlled and determined solely by the magazine length and the lands are well ahead of that.

It works regardless if the shooter is willing to use it as a single shot!

I fully agree with you. I've also noticed that many bullets actually have 2 sweet spots. One close to the lands and the other far off. The throating of many factory rifles isn't setup very well either.
Another option is load to mag length and try a few different powders and see how well they group.

I totally agree! Some are about 5-10 thousanths off and again about 35-50 thousanths off the lands.
I like to try closer first and see (or know) that they fit the magazine. I like a long and proud bullet in a loaded cartridge. They look cool and shoot well for me and I never worry about "book" OACL.....

i knew i had a lot of free bore...and just measured it. it does look like i can kiss the lands and still keep the bullet seated (barely). it will likely be a single shot at that point. ill try another round with them seated at max magazine length. if they still dont fly...i really dont have much motivation to deviate away from bergers.

If they don't work, wanna sell the ones you have left? I bet if you try some different powders you will find a winner. A rifle being a factory rig has nothing to do with whether or not it will accurately shoot the high BC bullets popular now. mtmuley

I never worry about book oal. I find the lands and load 005-010 off and start shooting ladder test with a chosen powder. Has worked very well for me.

Lip- I personally am not a fan of the ab longrange. They seem to be inconsistent and very sensitive to seating like your experiencing. I went back to my Berger load which is a proven killer and verified for me.

I've only taken a deer and pig with them. I had a good load worked up and they shot pretty well. For some reason they seemed to vary in ogive to base length quite a bit and also some bullets would become unexplained flyers. Don't get me wrong they shot well but just not as good as my Berger load and consistently. I heard reports of some guys saying the nose cavity would crater when seating also. I'm a huge accubond fan so don't think I didn't want to use the LR version either. For me the Berger just shoots better especially at long range. I may give the LR another try though.

I killed deer and elk with them. Like you, I got them to shoot very well. There is no advantage to me over the regular 200 grain Accubond however. I shoot 190 VLDs at steel. I have a spot I can get out to about 950. lipcurl just needs to work at the 210s a bit. It is unrealistic to think that plugging in a different bullet to a proven load combo will produce the same results. mtmuley

>It is unrealistic to think
>that plugging in a different
>bullet to a proven load
>combo will produce the same
>results. mtmuley

Amen!

It's also unrealistic to think that our pet load will be the best shooter in lipcurl's rifle. That's the reason my reloading bench is littered with partial boxes of bullets and various powders. Some just won't shoot in MY rifles.

Rifles are like women, they're all very different and should be treated accordingly!

Keep up the good work,
Zeke

Lip just curious why the 210 LR accubonds? Do you not like the 210vld? Also I'd suggest trying the 215gr Berger hybrids. Easier to load and impressive on animals from what I've seen.
