Just purchased a Remington 700 SPS in 260 Rem with a 1:8 twist and a 24" barrel. This gun will be primarily be set up for antelope and deer. I have a .338 RUM that shoots the 225 grain Accubond sub moa so I have the big stuff covered. I want a gun that's a little more fun to shoot and tote around. So far, since the twist in my barrel is sufficient for the heavier bullets, I am thinking of trying the 140 grain Berger's due to the lower velocity of the 260 but I don't want to rule out the 140 grain Accubond either. I haven't heard much good about the ABLR but would possibly tinker with the 130 grain Scirrocco II. Anyone shoot this caliber and bullets or feel knowledgeable enough to give an opinion, please do.

Just built a 260 ackley and am in the load development stage right now. I've been a berger user for years and love what they do. I'm also trying the 140 Amax using 4831.

I'd be interested to hear what your recipe is once you've locked your bullet/weight/powder down.

Because of the fanominal BC and SD these bullets provide I'll be using this to hunt all the way up to elk. (Depending on how she does on deer and lopes this year)

My magic number is 2950 fps out of a 28" green mountain bull barrel. So far groups are 3/8 consistently at 100 yards. I'm sure they could be better but I'm still a novice.

Thanks for the response. After continued research I am finding that the 130 grain Accubond at 260 speeds gets raving reviews. I like the Berger's a lot but some of the reviews I've read make me think twice?

LAST EDITED ON May-27-15 AT 11:56PM (MST)[p]use the one that shoots the best out of your rifle and don't doubt the berger until you see a well placed bullet fail with your own eyes. there is skepticism, but actual documented cases of a berger placed well and not performing are few and far between.
ive been getting very good results out of a savage lightweight hunter in .260 pushing 140g hornady SSTs. so far ive only shot a fox and gophers with them, but ive had good luck w/ 150 SSTs in a 270WSM.

I would love to try the Berger but it would be seated so far into my case o fit in the magazine that I would lose a lot of case capacity and at approximately .140" of jump I would be past even Berger's furthest recommended test lengths?

Thanks for the link. I might have to grab a box and hope they shoot at magazine length. Very impressive results with that bullet!!

If you are having seating depth issues because of a short action magazine then I'd highly recommend you find a box of hybrid Bergers. Much less sensitive to seating depth. Much less !

Good lunch and please post results.

Do they make .264 hybrids?

I double checked my distance to the lands when I got home today and if I seat the 140 Berger .005" under magazine length I will be jumping the bullet .175". Is this too far in anyone's experience?
