Noisy hollow butt stock cure, any ideas?

I bought a fiberglass stock to improve accuracy of one of my rifles. Fit and finish are fine but the hollow butt stock is noisy (like when a limb brushes it or a pack or belt buckle hits it) What would make a good filler that won't get loose or have moisture issues?

If you can get the recoil pad off, squirt some expanding foam into the butt. Tape everything you don't want it to stick to FIRST.....like the outside of the stock.

Then, simply trim it with a sharp blade, after it's totally cured, and put the recoil pad back on.

Simple fix and should only take an hour over a couple days.

Thanks Zeke, I'll check the recoil pad and give that foam a try after using LOTs of tape!

Zeke is spot on. Did this last week to an 870. Works great.

We also added two 1/2" lead filled copper tubing totalling just over a 1# in weight for recoil reduction too. Fitted the tubes inside the butt stock and injected the foam around them for a secure fit. Knocked the recoil from the 3-1/2" shells right down and balanced the gun out with a slighty heavy nose.

We also did the same to a 270 that was used for the wife and kids with good success. The hollow stock semed to make the gun "ring" after the shot and the foam tamed the harmonics down.

Just trying to illustrate the added potential benefits from foam.

If you try the foam trick, get the low expansion. Will say it on the can, or might say for windows and doors. mtmuley

When you foam fill it use a plastic bag inside the stock. That way if you ever decide to get rid of the foam, you could.

Good Idea Beanman.
