Here's my new custom 6.5x284!

H&S Precision Stock
Shilen Barrel fluted with break
Timney Trigger
Rem 700 LA trued/blueprinted w/ added sako style extractor
Waiting on an SWFA 5-20x50 SS for glass

What is the brake for on your rifle? Recoil or to see bullet impact?

That's one of the most impressive small cartridges ever developed and you should have some real fun with that thing. Looks most awesome too.

What will be your primary use?

Thx, Zeke

I'm planning on shooting 140 Berger VLDs. My plan is to use this gun to practice long range, out to 1000+ yds and I want a bullet I can then hunt with without changing anything as long as I don't have to carry the gun that far haha. It's a heavy one. Post pics of that 6.5saum when you get it!

LAST EDITED ON Oct-05-15 AT 09:20PM (MST)[p]The brake is a little for both. This rifle will be about 75% for steel shooting and practice, so I wanted recoil to be almost nothing so that A) I could call my own shots/impacts and B) so my wife could shoot it a lot without developing any bad recoil habits. The other 25% of the time I plan on hunting with it. It'll depend on the type of hunt as I won't take it on hunts where it's weight will be an issue. The complete gun loaded will probably weigh 14ish lbs.

I can't wait to shoot it! I have brass, bullets, powder, and primers so far. I'm waiting on my dies to come in the mail tomorrow or wed. My scope (SWFA 5-20x50 SS FFP) is coming in the mail tomorrow and I'll take it to mount the scope on wed when my smith gets my rings in.

Beautiful rifle ! Seeing your gun and with others talking. I may need to get a 6.5 x 284. Just don't let my wife read this. ;-) I have a few big guns, thinking I need to go a little lighter in my old age.
