UPS Insurance Scam

A word to the wise for those who ship guns (or anything else) via United Parcel Service. I had a gun shipped by them in June and they dropped the package so hard it knocked chips out of the stock in three places as well as breaking the buffalo horn buttplate. I filed the claim and royal runaround began. It took five weeks just to get them to look at the damage then they strung me along for another couple of months with excuses before claiming it all had to be done through the shipper. The shipper's first reaction was, "They never pay insurance and will string you along until you give up." That is exactly what they are doing. Now after five months since receiving the package they state the claim is too old. Very frustrating.

I will be shipping with FedEx or the Post Office from now on. If you do ship with UPS might as well skip the insurance upcharge as it is not worth anything.

Interesting, it's been a few years ago but back in my pre-64 model 70 collecting days I made 2 claims on UPS and they paid off pretty fast and without any argument. one was a high dollar super grade you could actually see the forklift tracks on the box.

I guess it just gets worse with all of them. you'll have a heart attack when you price fed-ex. the postal service is slow and I'm not sure about their insurance, but they've done fine when I used them.

Your shipper can make all he difference. I shipped an 8 ft fishing rod to a customer packaged in a pvc pipe. When the customer got it, the pvc pipe was bent at a 90 degree angle. UPS tried to deny the claim due to poor packaging. They said I should have used a flimsy cardboard tube! I went to the shipper with the bent tube. He took pictures and I had my money in a week. The shipper is their customer and they will take care of him. You, on the other hand, are just a PITA to UPS. That's what brown can for for you.

I had bought a new cva laminated stock muzzy about 4 years ago from a dealer. It was double boxed and wrapped perfectly. The stock had snapped in half at the wrist. A ups claims adjuster came to the house, inspected the box. She recommended the insurance claim and still it was denied. UPS is the damn devil. I loaded/unloaded trucks for them one season. UPS is the damn devil.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-04-15 AT 04:59AM (MST)[p]USPS is the same. They lost a gunbarrel I shipped thru the post office. They would not settle with me for several months, saying it may show up.I paid for priority mail delivery within 4 days. After months of waiting I had to start the claims process all over. Finally got my money, the barrel never did show up .
