She finally arrived....

LAST EDITED ON Jan-16-16 AT 12:05PM (MST)[p]I hate it when the picture rotates any one know how to fix that???

It should be a winner, Mr Tikka!
I know uncle sage and I like the ones we're shooting.

Finish length will be 25"/26" and I haven't decided if I'll flute it or not. I'm pretty excited about it.

One more thing I haven't decided on is whether or not to do a break on it. Whats everyone's thoughts on breaks? If i did install one I want just the small one same size as the barrel from Vais Arms.

I'm not a fan of radial brakes like vias. I prefer port style. I don't like the dust that radial brakes produce from prone.
Remember your hearing protection. I always carry an extra set in my bino pouch.

Unless you're going to push a ton of lead out of her, I'd not brake it.

My 280 AI is about as light as a rifle can be build and there are no recoil issues.....and I don't like recoil much either.

Whether you have a brake or not, I doubt you'll be watching the bullet impact.

There's my 2 cents,
Zeke

PS: I do like brakes for some cartridges which would be too much for ME to handle otherwise.

i've never had a brake on a rifle but would be open to having one. I don't like a lot of recoil either, my 270WSM and 280AI is about all i can handle on the bench without catching myself starting to flinch which does nobody any good.

I am a fan of muzzle brakes , as long as they're removable . With my rifles , I can put a lot of rounds into my practice shooting without developing a flinch . When hunting , I remove the brake and install the thread protector . I think we can all agree that the more we shoot , the better . Even moderate recoiling rifles can have a cumulative effect on the shooter over a long practice session .

What kind of point of impact shift have you noticed when you remove your brake? My rifle is only about 1/4" difference but I've seen others that were drastic.

When they're installed and removed properly , I have zero impact shift between the brakes vs thread protector . The only time I have seen an impact shift is when either one works its way loose . A friend had the same problem and turned me onto blue Loctite TAPE , not the blue liquid . The tape is easy to apply and leaves a tiny bit of residue to clean up between muzzle device change-outs , unlike the liquid . It has solved the problem perfectly , obviously DONT use any form of RED Loctite as you will need to apply heat to get the parts separated .

I've had several brakes but the only one I've tested with and without the brake is my 300 Win mag. POI was enough to convince me to simply leave it on all the time.

I'm sure some rifles/cartridges might not have significant POI change to worry about but my, albeit limited, experience tells me otherwise....for me.

Nothing wrong with taking it off to hunt and simply re-sightin if your POI doesn't remain constant, like the one I tested.

I've also seen a loose brake issue. My friend couldn't get his Sako 300 WSM to shoot worth beans. He turned it over to me and I discovered the issue after a bit of checking. The rifle now shoots like a laser!

My 2 cents again,
Zeke

Zeke and Sage what are you guys shooting out of your 280's??? I want to try the new Hornady ELD-X's in 162gr. and the Berger 168gr.
