So recently my brother bought a lathe and we decided to try out building our own guns. Here is the results. Big thanks to my brother for all his help!

6.5SAUM
M70 WSM action trued
Bolt face trued and lugs lapped
#3 Bartlein 24" 1-8 twist
McMillan Hunter pillar bedded
Barrel and bolt will be sent to Kampfeld after break in
Haven't chose a cerakote color yet

Going from the description of what you did to the action and seeing a very well done glass bedding job, you should have a very accurate shooter in that rifle. Keep us posted when you wring it out at the range.

Thanks for the compliment. I shot it today and everything grouped under 1". Best group 1/2".
The bedding cleaned up very well. I've found the prep work and use of clay helps a lot.

Sounds like you have a keeper if doing that well on the first groups. Now you have to decide what color on the cerakote.

Real nice Ca, glad to see that you are taking it to another level.

I also like the idea of a shortmag 6.5 over the other 6.5 options.

Congrats all around!

The control round push feed m70 are a great action and the factory triggers are one of my favorite. Built in recoil lug also. Also mag box length is over 3" unlike a m700 at 2.8". I do like Rem 700 also. Another plus with a m70 you don't have to cut a bolt nose recess in the barrel. With it being our first builds we decided on the m70.

The control round feed on my 270WSM from a 70 Classic was the smoothest, nicest sweet action i've ever had from a factory gun...and i'm a Remington fan from way back.

I had to let that rifle go to make ends meet this past year but i'd have not hesitated to desire that action in any custom build that i may have had done.

All along my thoughts had been, that rifle with a new medium light weight 9 twist 6.5 WSM barrel, a flat out mule deer exterminator! lol

Hornady makes brass stamped 6.5GAP 4S. That's what I'll have engraved on my barrel also. It's actually very nice brass.
Starting loads with H1000 and 140gr bergers showing great promise. Need to load some fine tune loads and retest soon.

Looks pretty awesome to me!

That 6.5 saum should be a thing of beauty!

I've never shot one but have shot the 6.5 WSM and 6 WSM quite a bit. I own the latter at present and shoot 115 D-TAC's through mine and print sweet little groups.

Just received my barrel and bolt back from Kampfeld and have to say his work is amazing!! Also installed a new scope. 3.5-15 NXS. Hope to shoot it this weekend.

I hope it shoots as it seems someone accidentally put the rifling on the OUTSIDE of the barrel! LOL (man, I think I'm funny sometimes)

Karl does some damn fine work.

That's looking really fine!!!

Thanks Zeke!! Still have some fine tuning to do but I'm very happy with the rifle so far. Had to restone the trigger and got it very crisp now.

We have been seeing a lot of Kampfeld stuff on here as of late. My family stopped by his shop the week of Easter. They sent me a picture of a barrel on the lath. It may have been yours, Haha. They dropped off a rifle and a bolt for me. Can't wait to get them back. A beautiful gun there. Your rifle looks very shiny. I guess its a target rifle?

Kampfeld will be doing more work for me in the future. Great guy to deal with and willing to help with advice.
It's a hunting rifle mainly and long range steel also. I will cerakote it soon. Just not sure what colors yet.

Ok got it. I guess you can do cerakote just about anywhere. Keep us posted on the build. I like Karl's work as well. I was just wishing he was doing complete guns or a little more for us wanting to build custom guns. But I will take what I can get.

He got really busy before he moved and started tightening the screws with what work he'd do.
He got really really busy when/because of the move to Idaho but the work that he's done lately has been as accurate and as timely as before relocating.
He hasn't done a ton for me, compared to some guys, but he has had his hand on several projects of mine and I've always been pleased.

John
I do my own cerakote so it's no problem getting it done.

Zeke
I think Karl has finally got his system down and it's my impression he is staying busy just doing fluting, bolt work and cerakote jobs.
