338 Lapua Factory Loads

I finally broke down and bought myself a new toy. I got the Savage 111 Long Range Hunter and topped it with a Nightforce. I didn't buy it to become an official "long range shooter", I just love the performance I've seen from this caliber guiding hunters that I just had to get one. I wanted a weapon that'd knock 'em down and keep 'em down at distances I know I'm capable of reaching effectively like 800 yards, but further if needed. I'm not one to purposely take long shots, most are around 300 yds or less. Having said that, I'm not interested in shooting the 300gr super high BC projectiles, I'm hoping to stay with 250's. I'm trying to decide between the factory loads from Lapua, Norma or Hornaday. I hear Hornaday brass can be an issue in some rifles, but for $75 a box, I'm not worried about keeping it.
Any ideas or suggestions out there?

I used to have a 111 long range hunter in 338 Lapua . It was very accurate with anything I fed it , especially the 300 grain Norma factory ammo . I would avoid Hornady brass like the plague !!!!! EVERY single handload and factory offering using Hornady brass got stuck in the chamber after firing , requiring a cleaning rod or long wooden dowel and hammer to remove, even with no pressure signs . Many others have had the same issue with the Savage , nothing wrong with the rifle , just doesn't get along with the Hornady brass for some reason . I would highly recommend using Lapua , Norma or Nosler brass regardless of your bullet/powder choice , never had a single stuck case with them .

Kudos to them that like them but i'll start losing accuracy, tiniest flinch most likely, shortly after my first shots on the bench with something like that, couldn't hit the broad side of a barn past 4-500 yds, and i suspect a lot of fellers are now finding that out too for their own selves. Good luck with it!

Edit: don't mind the signature slam, it's new.

You didn't get it to be a long range shooter? No other reason to have the Lapua with a Night force on top. That being said, look at ABM Ballistics. mtmuley

Well by "long range shooter", I mean planning on targets as a game.
I'm more of a "stretched shot" guy ;-)

If you are going to hunt it, take a look at Nosler's loaded ammo. ABM loads Bergers and Nosler loads Accubonds from 225 to 300 grains. Accubonds have proven deadly in my RUM. mtmuley
