I have been thinking about getting a 512 or 518 EOTech holographic sight on a 9mm AR. I think it would be fun. I've done a little research and have found mixed reviews. It's made in the USA, so I think I could be happy with it, but I would like to hear the opinions from the people here. I'm not really an AR person so any help or direction is appreciated.

A red dot with a decent size dot is a great combination on a AR9 platform. Add a can and it is a super fun toy out to 100 yards. I have an EOTech XPS2-2 on my AR9. It is quick and accurate.

I've shot several deer over 200 yards with an eotech mounted on my muzzy. Now that we can use magnified scopes, it just went down the road. Even on a 9mm AR I would prefer a 3x-4x fixed scope with back-up irons. It will offer more precise shooting and you won't be at the mercy of dead batteries in a shtf situation.

I have an Eotech on my AR. I absolutely love it. But I only use my AR for rabbits and dicking around. Nothing that needs high precision. What I like the most is target acquisition is very quick. As for dead batteries, I carry an extra set. I do have BUIS just in case it's life threatening though.

They just lost a major class action lawsuit brought primarily the military and several Leo agencies. Something to do with deviations in POI which occur when exposed to extreme changes in ambient tempurature. Having said thst I have used one extensively and even in a worst case scenario, the deviation is not enough to make a hill of beans within the ranges it was designed for. They will buy back any returned sites as part of the litigation. We switched to aim point as a result. Which I still feel was a bit knee jerk. The aim point is a decent system but for CQC I still prefer the eotech.

I've got two 512s. I spoke with the SEALs on base about the temp issues (prior to purchase) and they still use them on personal weapons.

I've never had a single issue with mine.
