Hey guys I'm looking for some help here... Im building a rifle and I'm looking at triggers trying to decide if I keep the factory M70 trigger and have my smith work it over...Or buy either a Timney or a Jewell??? The next question is a Jewell that much better than Timney to justify the extra $142.00??? That seems like a lot of extra $$$ for a trigger are you just buying the name???
Thanks

For a hunting trigger, in my opinion, the Timney will be just fine and likely a nice improvement over the stock trigger. Once you jump into competition shooting events and triggers set much lighter than you'd want in a hunting scenario, then the Jewell is well worth the money.

The factory m70 trigger is one of my favorite. With the proper adjustment and stoning they are amazing! I'd have it tuned to 2lbs and go shoot it. Heck buy yourself a spring from Ernie the gunsmith and install it. You may like it just like that!
I can't stand the timney replacement for a m70. The trigger is curved weird and way to small IMO.

That is exactly 100% of my personal findings also!

Great I'll spend the money on other parts like Hornady ELD's...
Thanks for the replies guys

I'm a model 70 freak and the answer to your question is easy. the Jewell is by far the best trigger and worth every penny.

The original 70 trigger can be worked into a good one, but the difference between a real good 70 trigger and a dangerous one is a fine line. because of the slight sear engagement required to reach the desired results.

If you buy a Jewell you won't regret it.

Having never owned a winchester rifle. I have only owned remington 700's and know their triggers are terrible. I have only used jewel triggers and love them. Just got another remington and as soon as Larry Scott gets some more triggers in I plan on ordering one.

I am a model 70 nut, and I will admit the M-70 trigger is lacking. to get a 70 trigger where you want it it borders on unsafe.

The solution is a Jewell trigger, it's far superior to the rest. I cannot say enough good about them. that said Jim Borden is now using the Timney Calvin Elite on some of his custom actions so you might check them out . I don't know much about these new triggers but if Jim uses them I have no doubt they're great. they aren't much cheaper than a Jewell though .
