A semi custom build on a Remington 700 long range 300 rum. It my sons first rifle build. Karl did another great job. He spiral fluted the barrel and bolt. Added a muzzle break and a campfire knob, fluted. Polished the bolt and Cerakoted the groves black. Ceramic bead blasted finish.

Excuse my bad photo skills.

The riflings are supposed to be on the INSIDE not on the OUTSIDE of the barrel!!!! ha

That looks awesome BIGJOHNT! It doesn't add any horsepower but we all like "cool" stuff.

Zeke I think it has the wrong twist ?

Great looking rifle!

Zeke,
The outside rifling runs counter to the inside rifling, thus negating spin drift and Coriolus effect. Kind of surprised you didn't know that!

The critters have to win every time. I only have to win once.

no offense to you guys that like it....but I hate all fluting.....too hard to clean the gun quickly and I hate cleaning.

No offense taken. But the fluting isn't just for looks. The bull barrel added a lot of weight to the end of the rifle. Now it has a better balance. It also helps with cooling the rifle. Plus rifle season doesn't last long enough. I love cleaning my rifles. There is nothing like the smell of Hoppe's # 9 in the morning !!!!

I HATE washing my car but I love cleaning my gun!

There's just something about it that seems "right" to me and it's one more way to extend my pleasure with a rifle.

Fluting is 73.6% cosmetic, to me, but there are real advantages too, as BIGJOHNT pointed out. I like bolt-body fluting since they feel like butter but I like bolt handle skeletonizing because it looks cool on some guns. Barrel fluting maintains the stiffness and removes some weight....and looks cool too!

My "Orange" rifle is slated for some of Karl's treatment but I've been shooting it too much to let it go just yet. Maybe this winter.

I love the fluted bolt. I think come winter after hunting season I might send my bolt to them and have it fluted and put the mini M16 extractor in.
