6.5 300 Weatherby

It sounds like great fun to me!

They all burn barrels and the problem can be exacerbated by shooting them with a hot barrel... but who cares anyways? He can buy another one or re-barrel it.

If this rig is shot and cooled between shots or general hunting shooting, it should hold accuracy for 1000+ rounds. It wouldn't make the best prairie dog rig with high round-count rapid-fire rate but it would be awesome for chucks, deer pronghorn, sheep etc.

Shooting 50 rounds per year (after all the load development) this rig is good for 20+ years! That's way more actual shooting than most MMer's will do in a year with a single rifle after development.

Oh so many fun toys and so little time/money!

Wasn't saying anything negative about it asking what other he might of been looking at, I have been thinking of the 6.5x47 laupa there is a lot of the 6.5 out there just curious on his decision I have a few barrel burners myself

I have a HS 300 ultra mag one of best shooting rifle I have ever owned, just getting heavier as I age and some friends bought that Weatherby and I like the Ballistics it produces ,the foot pounds of energy at long range is awesome and I wouldnt hesitate at all to shoot big game such as elk.

I would have to agree with getting older and carrying a heavy rifle. I used to carry a weatherby mark v 30-378. I now shoot a 257 weatherby on a Remington 700 action. Definitely a fan of weatherby cartridges.
