300 Weatherby Mag.

Trying to do load development for my new gun. I was thinking of starting with 180 gr. Accubond with 84.5gr of IMR7828. I appreciate any thoughts or opinions of what any MMers are using for their 300 Weatherby mag.

7828 or RL22 is what I would start with and a Fed215M. If it doesn't like the 180 accubonds I'd try the 168ttsx.

RL-22, Fed 215 GMM primers and either the 180 Accubonds or the 168 TTSX Barnes have been the go-to stuff in the one and only 300 Wby that I've loaded for (It's my son-in-law's gun)'.
I'm sure lots of stuff works but it all depends on what YOUR rifle likes.

I agree with the 7828 and RE-22. I'm shooting 190 gr Bergers and 180 gr Partitions depending on what and where I'm hunting.

Is your rifle factory or custom? most custom makers ( good ones anyway ) put no freebore in custom rifles chambered for WBY rounds. this makes a HUGE difference in your loading. max loads in my custom chambers are usually in the middle of the load data of most manuals. I never shoot factory ammo it's too hot.

Thanks for the advice guys. I am always willing to try a little of anything.

Togwotee- It is a factory Weatherby Vanguard. I won it at an RMEF dinner and thought I'd give it a try. So you think about 82 gr. of 7828 to start out with? Then go up and down a couple grains to fine tune it?

Thanks again

That should be a safe starting point with a 180. I would only work up from there that's a middle of the road load. no need to go lower unless for some odd reason you see high pressure signs.

In every factory WBY I've owned I exceeded max load data before reaching a max load for my gun. so don't be surprised if you have to do the same.

You will not need the GM primers. The regular 215 will be fine. But, good luck finding either. mtmuley

If you plan on shooting elk I'd consider a 200 grain bullet. I use the 200 gr. AB and will shoot nothing else from the 300 for elk. If you can get 2800 fps out of it (should be no problem) the ballistics of the bullet match perfectly with the Leupold B&C scope reticle. Great combo.
