I bought a remington 338 xcr win mag I see that the triggers are a recall iam thinking about replacing it with a timney has anyone experienced a malfunction in the remington triggers?

Have a good smith work it over or replace it. I'm sure one of our resident Remington bashers will fill you in on the "malfunction" part. mtmuley

Mine was fine, changed out one of the springs after a bit then went with a Jewell. Keep the stones away from the sear and you should be OK.

Rem barrels are a different story....

You have a computer, just "google" Remington trigger malfunctions and read for the next few hours.

Regardless of what trigger you have remember the golden rule of gun safety!
I have about half Rem and about half after-market triggers on my Remingtons. They all work and always have with tens of thousands of rounds fired in them over 5 decades. No issues!
Sounds like YOU have an issue with it so an easy $150 fix is a Timney. Pretty simple.

I don't have a issues with it just curious if anyone has any problems with the remington triggers, I have a remington model 7 308 and never had any problems with it just seen the trigger recall and asking if anyone has any problems with it

I have had zero trouble with any of my Remington triggers. A smith in my area is a wizard at tuning them. mtmuley

Thanks mtmuley when I get a scope on it I will go try it out right now it has a 3lbs pull little bit heavy will have a smith look at it

The recall is mainly do to the globs of sealant used on the overtravel screw and many of them have excess sealant that dripped into the trigger body and can create problems.
The xmark trigger is ok but I much prefer an old style Tuned trigger. My brother and I have tuned 100s and with a little stone work and spring they are awesome.

They can be worked over by a good smith to be acceptable. or you can spend a few bucks more and buy a Jewell and be done with it.

The best smith in the world will never make the factory junk into a Jewell. you can install it yourself in no time.

LAST EDITED ON Nov-17-16 AT 03:44AM (MST)[p]Recommending a Jewell with the exact same issues, along with being delicate, over a factory Walker trigger on a hunting rifle shows what a window licker you are..pre-64 fan no doubt.

stick with what you know, which aint much.

Not that I havent found the Walker to be unpredictable, I have, its no mystery and I wont make any excuses for it..They have inherent issues, even Mike Walker admits such.

dont worry huntindude, i'm just doing an annual drive by..carry on

Edit to add, if you want something to replace the factory trigger that will take any abuse you can throw at it,unlike the delicate jewell, the answer is Timney Calvin.

So a self-proclaimed expert knows more about triggers than the people who build some of the best rifles in the world. I love this site it always delivers laughs.

WTF do you throw at your trigger anyway Einstein? it get gummed up with bullchit? then shut your mouth when you're shooting.

The Calvin is a very good trigger and catching on mainly because it's cheaper, but Jewell is still king.

Search for yourself on what top builders use don't take my word for it . losers like reddog should be proof enough you need to do your research . trust but verify.

Jewel triggers are a great trigger if you need a trigger under 1lb. Also they need to be kept clean and many people neglect the trigger when cleaning.
Haven't tried a Calvin yet but have heard good things.
I use old style triggers in a lot of rifles but tune them myself and have a few tricks for them.

Dummy, I'm sorry that the pinnacle of your shooting experience wouldnt knock the middle out of my Tuesday afternoon.

I know you judge quality on how much you have to pay for it, so it should sooth you to know a calvin runs right with a jewell price wise.

Thanks muley. aint back, just talkin trash to the liberal :)

I have kinda narrowed it down to either a timney or a trigger tech I am leaning towards the trigger tech though has anyone else have this trigger?

The trigger tech are a very nice trigger. I'm not a huge Timney fan unless it's the thin shoe model. The regular shoe is to wide for me.
