New Bow advice

I am thinking about burning my deer points this year on an archery hunt. I have no desire to hunt the debacle of the rifle hunt on the HM.

I have not purchased a bow since 1990. What should I buy and more importantly how do I set it up? Sights, release, rest, etc? Where would you buy one also?

Thanks in advance

Go to an archery pro shop, get ahold of one of their guys and spend a few hours with them shooting different bows. They will set it up for you if your not too sure what you want to do. There are so many different bows and accessory combos you can do it will make your head spin. Just trust a pro and shoot multiple bows to see what feels good to you. I go to a bass pro shop and they have always done good work for me. Just do it now in the off season so they can spend time with you, don't wait until June, or any other spring month.

What area will you be shopping for a bow? I am sure someone here can help you find a good bow shop in your area. Set up is very important.

I would purchase in either Utah of SLC counties. I have seen the shop in AF, dont remember the name; and I went to Jakes 25 years ago. Any other good ones?

Wilde Arrow in Centerville would be a great place to start, Top of Utah Archery in Logan is pretty awesome and my go to guy for the last couple years now. I would find some time in the middle of the week to hopefully get an empty shop and plenty of one on one help.

+1 for Wilde Arrow, they were great when I bought my new stuff earlier this year. Didn't try to push any particular brand on me which was nice.

What is the HM of which you speak?
I'm just trying to decipher your commentary.

I was guessing he was talking about the HM Henry Mountains ?

Me too brother, me too!

I bow hunt about as often as rifle hunt and find that a guy can have a "cluster" with either type of hunt. You can also turn anything into a "hunt" if you want to put forth a little effort.

Good luck, OP, with the new bow and your hunt whatever tag you get.

I have been on the rifle hunt before. 26ish tags, and many people helping turn that mountain into the 405 in Orange County at 5pm. The bow hunt was like highway 12 in December.

Shot many bows, and bought a Mathews. It was very smooth, a couple others were close but not perfect.

Depending on your budjet check out the PSE Carbon Air new technology composite carbon fiber ultra light weight add a Tight Spot quiver..same carbon fiber light weight construction...nice light weight setup shoots so smooth you dont even need a stabilizer...Add a BlackGold 5 pin with dial adjustment to 100yds....new technology sight gets sighted in to 60yds shop weighs arrow and shoots arrow through chronograph to sec ft/sec...then computer program calculates where the bottom 60 yd pin needs to be dialed to ..to be sighted in for 61-100yds...computer prints out a tape with measurements from 61-100yds you turn a wheel and refference arrow to the exact ranged point of impact....range something at 73yds turn the dial to 73yds...bottom pin sighted in perfectly.....worth every penny check'm out at BlackGold.com

I purchased that sight, I didn't like that PSE bow. I could have flipped a coin between the new Reign and Mathews.
