6.5 Creedmoor for kids

I am looking into getting a rifle that until yesterday would have been for my oldest boy but now may be used by my wife as well. I have heard a lot of the 6.5 creedmoor and it's performance. The thing that really has my interest is the light recoil as both my wife and boy are on the smaller side. Currently I am looking at the browning x-bolt micro. This will be used for deer and elk with shot 300-400 yds. I don't have a lot of experience with this caliber and though I would try to get some info from guys that have experience with it. Thanks for the info.

Not sure where you live But if there is a Cabela's near by they are having a KILLER sale right now on the New Savage 16/116 lightweight hunter stainless steel barrel synthetic stock available in 6.5 Creed rifle retails for $750 on Sale until 2/22 for $499.99 you can also order it online !!! Eastman's magazine did a write up a few months back on their picks for the top 12 Mtn rifles & the Savage LWH was on there in fact the next cheapest gun on their list was over $2000

I have seen firsthand what a Creedmoor is capable of on both deer and elk at ranges up to about 700 yards. This little caliber is amazing. I just ordered one myself.

I think the CM is a perfect gun for what you're looking for. I have one in the x-bolt hell's canyon and it is a tack driver that i would let any kid shoot.

I've shot a couple Creedmoors , they seem to shoot well and do what they are intended to do. But there's plenty other choices that have been around much longer and do it well also ! Like that 260 mentioned , 243 Win has been a youth favorite for decades also. With this big creedmoor craze going on its about impossible to find 6.5 bullets or powder in my area right now ! The Creedmoor is nice but it isn't the best thing to ever come along.

it's just the flavor of the month. Most shooters are lemmings and just go for what their buddies say is the in thing.

They will never stop trying to reinvent the wheel to make a solution to a non-problem. Mags, short mags, super short mags, ultra mags, pisscutter specials, ect.

Having said that it is an excuse to buy a new gun....and any excuse to buy a gun is a good excuse. The short mags make me laugh but some guys sure love them. I'm sure a lot of guys wonder why the hell I have a .338 Federal.

Yep it was such a disaster Remington had to keep renaming it. Every 6.5 was the same way in this country until about 10 years ago. Africa and Europe have been killing everything with the 6.5x55 for the last 70 years, but you could hardly give one away here.

Yeah, why the hell do you have a .338 federal? Was it one of those deals when they threw in the gun if you bought 3 boxes of ammo ;-) Or was a .338-06 just too much for ya :)

Now that's funny, I dint care who you are!

We're an opinionated bunch and nothing wrong with toting what a guy likes but no reason to bash those who actually shoot...a lot , and use a cartridge that you don't like!

Proud WSM, RUM 280, 280 AI, wildcat SHOOTER!
Are they the only thing that works? Eff no!

Back to the Creedmoor , was shooting one at 1000 yards the other day and had a good laugh. Takes a lot longer with that round than my 264 to hear the steel ring ! In fact had time to pull the trigger , take the ear muffs off , eat a doughnut , then hear the steel ring !
