Muzzlebrakes

Taking my gun in to a reputable gunsmith to get it cerakoted. He also does fantastic screw on muzzlebrakes so I've read. I would like to increase the accuracy of my rifle. I would love to hear anyone's info or advice on the pros and cons of them. Do they increase accuracy? What is the actual recoil reduction? For little bit more I can have my wood stock bedded, is that more beneficial for accuracy than a brake? Thanks for any replies.

I would recommend getting the rifle bedded if your looking for more accuracy first. Also make sure it is pillar bedded properly.
Muzzlebrakes are personal preference. I prefer a side discharge brake with ports angled back. Helps control the recoil of the rifle and directs it back into the shooters shoulder.

I hate brakes but I have a few. they can do an amazing job of reducing recoil , at the expense of your hearing. they don't help accuracy.

If you can handle the recoil I'd stay away from them.

See the above 2 posts. Both filled with wisdom.

With that said, I like brakes on everything larger than a 300 Win Mag. Anything from 300 WSM and down I opt to go forego the brake.

Thanks guys, sounds like good advice. I will go with the bedding, it is a little more expensive but it's just a 270 wsm so recoils not a huge factor especially in a 9.5 pound gun. They call it a featherweight but that's a lie. I wasn't super keen on using ear protection while hunting anyways. Thanks again.

We have KDF muzzel brakes on 4 rifles reduces recoil by 40% My 80 year old Dad could shoot his 300WBY Mag off the bench all day. The KDF reduced the recoil to about a .270.....my little Grandson has a .270 we put a KDF on it now recoil is like a .20ga. Shotgun....

Never had any issues with noise, guys on side benches have packed it up several times though...lol...

A brake will help recoil obviously, and more importantly will quicken recovery time allowing you to see your hits with most rifles.
I personally don't like a brake on a hunting rifle. Just too loud and the hearing protection is an inconvenient pain in the butt.

I am a big fan of muzzle brakes but they do increase muzzle blast quite a lot. They are a huge boost to recoil reduction !! I have one on every rifle, even a 243 Win Ruger M 77, the greatest thing besides huge recoil reduction is the lack of muzzle jump & you can watch the bullet hit the target giving you the ability to recover & reload faster. If you can get one, get one that has holes drilled in the front end as well as sides all around --- that is a huge help ! This would be one that screws onto the end of the rifle barrel & does not drill directly into the rifle barrel except to thread the end of the barrel. My 7 M M Rem Mag shots like a .222/.243 with the brake on it. Good Luck ! Jerry Gold--Ft Collins, Co
