I have a Browning A5 with a paradox barrel. I have only ever killed I think one deer with a shotgun and it was with my 1187 smooth bore. I normally either bow hunt or use my muzzle loader. It has a cheap 4x scope on it. Don?t have the money right now but was thinking about a vortex strike eagle scope 1-6. Anyone have any recommendations on slugs to shoot? Thanks

I shoot my 870 with a Hastings Paradox barrel, and it is extremely accurate. Tried many different loads and found the Hornady 300 gr SST to be the best for me. I can shoot coyotes out to 200 yards regularly. 3" high at 100 is still only 8" low at 200, still a potent deer killer.

My hunting partner shoots his Bennelli SBE and they don't shoot well for him, but the Winchester 385 does great. The best in his is the Remington sabot Copper slug.

I shoot a fixed 4X Leupold on mine, and partner uses a 3-9X Leupold on his. We like to walk the thick river islands or desert sagebrush and jump shoot whitetails here around Idaho Falls, so usually only using the lower powers anyway.

Lightfield slugs. The best performing slug I've ever used.

Homey, he never spent much time shooting prairie dogs at up to 200 yards with iron sights and a .22LR. I was once deadly at it.

no kidding Bean....those were the days.....2 feet high and wherever the wind told you on windage....

514 remington single shot....then man, when the 550 semi auto was available .....we really started to burn up the ammo.

Amazing how many of those long shots could be made with practice...it was like magic
