I'm looking at these two sights. I've used the Spot Hogg before and really like it. I've heard lots of good reviews about the Black Gold and it's about $50-$60 cheaper. Your thoughts on my dilemna?

Absolutely no comparison. The Spot Hogg is built much better. In a moment of weakness I bought a MBG to save a few bucks. Coming from a SH, the MBG just felt cheezy. I couldn't trust it. Back to a SH now.

I've shot both, I just put the new Black Gold on my bow and have completely loved it. Not exactly sure how something feels "cheezy" compared to above, but I love it.. I went with the 3 pin BG slider and would def recommend any of their new products.

I've had both......ALL I use is Black Gold sights now. Solid, flawless and the absolute BEST warranty on the market.

Which model of Spot Hogg are you talking about? I don't see where you say what model, but there are cheaper Spot Hogg models out there.

That ain't a camel toe, that's a moose knuckle!

At one time id argue with anybody that the spott hogg was the best sight out there. I still own a 7 deadly and a hogg it.I recently switched to the black gold ascent and i liked how you could custom order it off there website the way i wanted it.I now like the black gold better. I had a 4" dovetail put on mine with a rear facing sight tape, micro adjustments for individual pins, height and elevation. I also picked each individual pin color and the size.

I shoot the Right On 7 pin. I absolutely love it. Never had a problem or anything to complain about. I have never shot a Black Gold, but its hard to argue with ruthunter if they are that customizable and $50 bucks cheaper. It would be nice if you could shoot both, before you buy.

The Spot Hogg is customizable too. You can order from them with pins of any size or color. I just custom ordered a Tommy Hogg. Next to the Ascent I had before, there is simply no comparison IMO. While the Ascent's design is awesome, I thought the construction was lacking durability. The slider movement is plastic and has play in it. You can grab the head and with a little torque it gives. The SH is rock solid and all metal. The extra $50 is worth the piece of mind to me.

I also sent back an old Hunter Hogg it and at my request they upgraded it to the Bulletproof pins, put in all new fibers, new wrap, cleaned it all up and only charged me $30 inc shipping with a 3 day turnaround. Great service!

I will say that the Spot Hogg feels solid. Its not something you notice so much when its mounted, but when its in your hand, if feels tough. And apparently its also customizable too. I have shot a few other sights, but I can't see myself going to anything but a Spot Hogg anytime soon. Service is also very important.

I decided to go with the Spot Hogg. I don't doubt that the Black Gold isn't good, but since I don't live too close to where I could put my hands on both of them and my experience was with the SH, I couldn't force myself to make a switch.

What pushed me over the edge to get the SH is that's what I'm used to and I know they're tough, sturdy, and I REALLY like the 2 3/8" pin guard. Plus, I really like how they put the vertical wire in that goes up and down on the pins. They haven't failed me in the past, so no need to switch.

Thanks for all your opinions.

For those of you that have any of these sliders, I'm planning on getting the Spot Hogg Tommy Hogg with the 3-pin setup.

My question is on the pin selection. Would you recommend with the .019 Fiber Optic for the top 2, and then the .010 for the bottom one that will be used for the longer distances?
And what colors would you recommend as well?

Thanks!!

Eveybody has their favorite sight and the one they shoot is always the best right :)

Our Group all uses the BlackGold 5 pin and has never had a need to try the Spot Hog or anything else because the BlackGold does the job and more....BG is durable and quality made and has taken everything we can throw at it in all hunting and weather conditions... Both seem as quality sights and the BG warranty is as good as it gets...Sometimes it isn't about the money.. It's about how well the sight performs in the field in adverse conditions as well as hunting situations.

If you hunt a lot in dark timber or low light conditions you should really give the BlackGold a try..The BlackGold fiber optics are as good or better than anything on the market. The BlackGold fiber optic adjusting technology is a game changer when hunting in low light conditions....You can see the pins clear and bright when it is way to dark to take an ethical shot :)
