Used or New?

What would you guys do. My budget is limited, but I want/need a new bow. Would you rather buy a higher end used bow, or a low/mid grade new bow? Any recommendations on new bows that you guys have shot and liked that are not through the roof expensive?

I guess it depends. Preferably I would like to spend max $500. But it's starting to look like that might only get me the bow. I was starting to consider used, because it looks like I could get a decent bow, completely setup for 400-500. Or a real good used bow for that price and piece the rest together.

There is a whole bunch of guys out there that buy new boys every yr or two and you can get some good deals. I've done it quite a few times. Check out the archerytalk.com classifieds.

Get on ebay and punch in the bow you want, you might be surprised. Really scrutinize what the ad says and check the sellers history. I bought a great bow for less than half price.

Of the last dozen or so bows I've had 50% have been used. Have a strother infinity I'm thinking of letting go now...as I just picked up a new used bow...

Anyways, I vote for used/top end bow 1-3 years used. Pick up used components or all set up and you can save hundreds.

why not check out the classified ads here. I have seen a couple of bows for sale for a good price.

Yea, now I'm looking on here, Craigslist & Archerytalk. I'm starting to like the deals I'm finding. I'm in Denver and seems most of the ads are in Utah. So that rules most of these ads out since I can't go see/shoot them. But anyway, I'm definitely thinking used if I can find the right deal. I'll try to put the need it now mentality on hold until the right deal surfaces. Thanks for all the advice.

Ebay to. I bought a brand new 2012 hoyt for half the price. 600 bucks is much better than 1000-1200 bucks.....

Meat:) If you really want to save the bucks and get a quality used bow you really expand your range by looking on-line farther than you can travel. Sometimes you need to take a chance on an on-line site like EBay or Craigslist. They have a lot of dealers on those sites with a ton of great quality preowned bows and accessories. For these dealers it is a business, there is plenty of feed back and business history so the good ones are reputable and stand behind their bows. From your posts you know all your specifics draw lenght, poundage etc. If you take the time to do your homework on the dealers and bows you are interested in. You can find a great deal and save big bucks on these sites. I have helped several people purchase preowned bows on-line through dealers on these sites ALL at a great savings. Sometimes going through a dealer is better than a private party just for use of Pay Pal to screen idenity theft and card security issues.

Good luck on finding what you are looking for :)

I took a buddy to a bow shop last summer and he was going to buy a new Mathews bow but when he got there a bare bow cost $800 plus $150 for a good sight, $120 for a rest, $100 for a quiver, $50 for a stabilizer, $80 for a release, $125 for a dozen arrows, $39 for a pack of 3 broadheads.

They had a used Mathews Drenlen that fit him sitting there for sale for $500 plus it had a Mathews quiver on it with 5 arrows with bh's in it. He bought it and has been happy ever since killing some nice critters and having fun.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-20-13 AT 06:23PM (MST)[p]I rarely buy a new bow. My last four bows have been used bows that were about a year or so old. I buy top end bows usually for a couple hundred dollars less than they are new. Never had a problem. By the way I always buy Hoyt.
