What is the best week to hunt archery elk in Colorado. We are thinking of going the first week this year. What week is your favorite?

I have had my best luck a few days before muzzy season starts. I have never called in a bull opening week, I'm sure others have. Exactly when the elk are going to get the rut on is a good question.

I think it depends on how you like to hunt elk. In one popular colorado l/e elk unit a couple years ago I saw the biggest bull in the 2 weeks I was there on opening day. He came in at 6:30 to a pond-wallow water hole and spent 15 minutes drinking and wetting down. he was a 330-340 class 7x7. The rut is fun but the elk have been pressured and the best bulls have cows and pulling them away from the harem is very difficult. I guess my short answer is whatever week you can go hunt...if you can hunt all 4 weeks you are a lucky man!!!

two out of the last 3 years I killed my bull opening day the other year it was on like day 4 So my vote is first week bulls haven't been called to yet and are not with cows yet also they come to water most every evening right before dark. You won't hear a bunch of bugeling but from my experience I would rather hear less bugels and have the bulls come to my call than hear a bunch of bugels and not have any bulls come to my calls because they already have a bunch of cows.

I'm going to avoid muzzy, probably earlier rather than later. This years season is a week later than last year. Last year was amazing during the second week of September, so I'll probably shoot for early Sept. Going again in October, so I'll have double odds this year!
