Haven't archery hunted in awhile and drew a good elk tag and want to get the newest up to date equipment that would help out during my hunt. I will be using a Mathews Switchback XT and currenty use Bemen hunter arrows with 100 grain Thunderheads. Now, what should I be using instead of these?

MICK......TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE EASTON FULL METAL JACKET ARROW, I SHOOT THE 340......TUFF STICK FOR SURE. I LIKE THE SHUTTLE T TERMINAL, AND THE ULMER EDGE EXPANDABLE HEADS......MY 2 CENTS........................GOOD LUCK.............YD.

I did want to upgrade. YD, do you know what your setup weighs. My Bemans are quite heavy and it decreases arrow speed allot.

YES.....MY ARROW WEIGHT IS 462 TOTAL GR. SHOOTING A 100 GR. BROADHEAD. I LIKE A HEAVY ARROW FOR PASS THROUGH IF POSSIBLE. VELOCITY IS ABOUT 290 PLUS PER SEC. I AM NOT MUCH IN THE WAY OF VELOCITY, BUT I DO LIKE THE KE FACTOR I HAVE GOING. BUT THEN AGAIN I DONT SHOOT OVER 60 YARDS EITHER. ..............YD.

+1 on the FMJ 340 arrows. I also shoot a Switchback XT and arrow weight for me is about 466gr. Using a 100gr. G-5 Striker and Blazer vanes. Pass throughs on elk at 40yds. The FMJ's are worth the money ...they last forever...If you really want to get dialed in for a special hunt you might want to try some of the newer technology arrows, small aerodynamic style broadheads that are on the market. They shoot like field points out to 60yds.

Those Thunderheads are great broadheads but I had problems getting them to fly well for me past 30yds in the wind. When the Strikers came out we never looked back:)

Good hunting..

You might want to look at the Gold Tip Kinetic arrows and VPA broadheads. They sharpen up great and fly like darts.

everything is good you have. I used to use the thunderhead broadheads, and it always took me a while to sight them in from feild points, they flew ok after several crazy flights and sighting in.

I did switch ot the G5 strikers. LOVE THEM. They shoot identical to field tips. And they are sharp.

I'd recomend switching to gold tip 75/95 arrows tipped with anything G5 makes. I have killed my fair share of animals with the Tekan. Since they aren't making the Tekans any more I'd rcomend the T3.

I'm not bashing your set up or anyone else's opinion but I have shot gold tips for years and won't ever switch!!

Travis: I was at my archery range the other day and some guys were talking about Gold-Tip arrows being discontinued. Has anyone heard anything ?
