shooting 60# limbs on Matthews featherweight at 28" draw. 100 grain rocket ultimate steel heads into a 1000 pound critter. What would you recommend?

your total setup in my opinion needs to be at least 450 grains.

Everyone has a different opinion... but I prefer heavy over screaming speeds.

^ This. I don't have any experience with that broadhead, but it looks like you'd want as much KE as you can get.

Go "Heavy" over speed. My setup for Elk is Easton Full Metal Jacket 340 arrow's weight is 11.2gr per inch. My setup out of my Mathew's SwitchBack XT at 60# gives me a total pass through at 40yds on elk with a good lung shot. Broadhead is 100gr. G-5 Striker, Total arrow weight is 466gr. That setup is an awesome killing machine :)

I have to 2nd a heavy arrow. Momentum comes with weight. Momentum is what will pull your arrow through animals. You should be able to achieve at least 425 grains.

Yeah, thats what I'm thinking. I've lost a few critters over the last 7 years or so and in each case, penetration was the issue. I had once used open on impacts but will never do that again. I think I will go quite heavy. probably use easton axis 400 series with 100 grain brass insert followed up with 150 grain heads.

any thoughts?

I like your thinking, but with a .400 spined arrow you'd be way underspined.

Better to be over splined than under splined IMO. I also think you will be not getting you max. Out of a 400 splined arrow and going with a broadhead weighing greater than 125gr. Is not standard with the new technology arrows and 2" Blazers. Personally I don't want to shoot a heavy front arrow. You may creat some arrow control issues?

>you think? with 60# limbs?

yep! I shoot a 29" 300 spined arrow out of my 60's, 29" draw. 150gr head, 50gr brass insert with 3" vanes. 21% foc, 440grs total weight. Can shoot it bare shaft and hit within 6" of the bullseye at 80 yards. 400's bare shaft with a standard insert turn sideways at 30 yards with 125 gr heads, can't hit the target its so bad, way underspined. 340's work with 125's and standard insert but not as well as the 300's.

shedcrazy, I have a buddy that shoots a 60 single cam. I set him up with 350 spined arrows at 28", he draws 28. He can shoot 150gr heads for a total weight of 435 or 125gr heads, standard insert. I think you'd be good with 350 or 340 spine if you wanted to be around 450grs or so.
