Smoked a elk at 50 yards last year with my rage 125 Easton FMJ's 11.2 gpi and 72lbs of Z7 Mathews fury. ha. The shot was a liver and not perfect but the rage made it happen. I have been hearing good things about the ulmer edge. What do you think?

I was in the same delima last year, but it was between the Epek and the ulmer...

for the past 3 years I have shot the epek and loved them but also saw and read good things about the ulmer.

So last year on a cow elk that I had quartered away from me I let an arrow go with an ulmer edge... Well the arrow entered into the rib cage however the side of the ulmer caught a rib and it ricocheted off the rib an came back out. She ran 20 yards and I was able to get another full on broadside shot on her and ended the deal.

I have also hearing of one other person who had the same thing happen to them on a deer but he couldnt recover it.

Just my thoughts...

I used the Ulmer Edge last year and smoked a nice 4 point. They fly super accurate and DO NOT open in flight. The blades are sharp on both sides, so any movement makes the blade cut more. I am going to use this head again and again because they fly like a practice tip and put a massive slice in the animal.

I WOULD THINK THAT ANYTHING THE ULMER GROUP DESIGNS IS GOING TO BE FIRST CLASS IN PERFORMANCE. THEY HAVE A TON OF BOW EXPERIENCE OVER THE DECADES. THIS EDGE BH HAS BEEN WELL THOUGHT OUT, & SEEMS TO BE FLAWLESS IN FLIGHT....................YD.

I've shot the Epek the last 2 years and have no complaints at all. I bought the Ulmer Edge this year because I felt like a change with all the new stuff out there I've never tried and because the Ulmer had great reviews from what I'd read. The only thing I think I'd want to take my Ulmer's back for (even though I've yet to shoot them), is to maybe try the new Rage Hypodermic. I'll probably end up sticking with the Ulmer Edge, and regardless, I can't wait to use whatever this fall.

I honestly have not looked at any of the new Rages yet. It appears they now have a new blade retention holding them closed rather than the o-ring friction against little blade cut or flat. Can anyone enlighten us on that?

Ulmer Edge just doesn't have enough front end penetration before the blades deploy/hit hide for my liking. They also don't have a wide enough cut for a mechanical head for my liking either.

I'm sticking with NAP Killzone Max. Big holes, full inch and half head penitration before the blades hit hide, no kick out issues due to design and so far the best blade retention system I have ever come across. I have pretty much stopped looking at any other mechanical heads as these things are devastating on both entrance and exit. I want a huge hole on an elk and with the right arrow weight these things are defiantly the ticket. I wish they had 125 grain heads, so far they are only in 100 grain. You might take a look at them.

I'm dialed in with 125 grains heads and feel the extra penetration is mescessary for marginal hits on elk. Rage do create massive wound Chanel.

Last year rage came out with an all new 2 1/4 inch 2 blade broad head and they redesigned the 2" 2 blade adding a chisel tip and adding a new blade retentioner (shock collar) that works phenomenal. This year they've came out with the new hypodermic that has a solid stainless steel body and stainless steel blades. They claim their getting more penetration than ever. Ill never shoot anything else

Great to hear that Rage has finally addressed their o-ring friction issue to keep the blades closed. I have always liked the design right up to the issue that the blades wont stay shut. Catch them on a light little twig and they opened on you. I never had one open in flight but know of a few people that did. After a really long tough stalk I came to full draw on a nice buck and saw a blade dangling, that was my last time using them. I will check out their new blade retaining collar. Thanks for the info.
