Western hunting max-1

Hey everyone,

Please help me out. I grew up in the south, tree stand hunting farms for whitetail. I recently moved out west and needless to say my hunting knowledge has been turned upside down. It seems that the first thing I'm going to need to invest in is new camo.

I was at a local archery shop trying to get some answers and everyone said I needed to get a max-1 pattern. I have never used or seen that pattern and one of the guys there had his jacket with him. It was by a company called 46rail. Seemed like a super slick design.

So have any of you seen their other gear or used it? How does it hold up? I have checked out their website and their pricing doesn't seem to steep. Any suggestions would be awesome!

Ive been in the west hunting for over 25 years. I dont go out and buy expensive camo. Most any pattern will work so long as it breaks up your outline. Play the wind and you will be fine. I also tree stand hunt so those opertunities are there in the west also. IMO nothing beats spot and stalk though.

If you are looking for a inexpensive camo setup max-1 is used by multiple companys. 46Rail is a fairly new one that seems to have some good gear. I have really liked the Kuiu Verde pattern. This camo is an investment though as the jacket is around $230. I have nothing but good things to report on its performance and I have had it for multiple seasons and multiple hunts. Another option is a Kings Desert or Mountain Shadow. Both are popular patterns that are effective in most locations. Take a look at them all!

Hey oneshotwade, thanks for the heads up on 46rail. I was looking at their website and it looks like the jacket is only $175. seems like you can get a whole set of camo: pants, jacket, vest , long sleeve over layer, gloves and beanie for under $600.00. Are the prices on their web site accurate? or should I assume I am going to pay $230.00 for the jacket?

You may want to consider just shopping on line from Cabela's. Great gear, you will save a ton of cash and still kill the same amount of game animals. Tons of camo patterns out there. If you know the terrain you will hunt most just choose a camo pattern accordingly. Darker areas darker camo, desert brush, lighter camo it's not rocket science. The post that indicated anything that breaks up your outline is spot on. Almost anything camo will work but consider the light verses dark color and background. We hunt a lot of dark timber so we use mossy oak break- up or infinity. Plenty of stuff out there without spending $600 on pants shirt and jacket. Water proof jacket, shirt, pants all in Scent-Lok water proof gear at Cabela's.
