I have the one hand older bushnell range finder and was wondering what some use to attach the finder to your bino harness or back pack? Ideally it would be a unrestricted re trackable cord or string. Have a hunt coming up and keeping the range finder in the pocket seems to be a risky proposition at times. Thank you for your ideas on the topic.

I just saw a host of a tv show attach his range finder to his bino harness strap on his chest. He did this with a little 1-2" loop made out of d loop material. When it's not being used it sits next to your binds, when you need it, it slides up the strap, just as your binds do.
I have not tried it myself yet, but it looked pretty slick.
From experience, we always have our rangefinders tied to us in some way. My brother and I have both lost rangefinders when we have failed to tie them to a belt loop or backpack.

Check out crooked horn outfitters website. They have a good system for rangefinders and binos

I have tried all kinds of attachments and tethers and what I like best is a retractable tether from nikon that I attach to a D-ring that I ( my wife )sewed on the chest of my hunting vest and jacket.I didn't like my range finder hanging off my bino's it always seems to get in the way or hang up on something .I mainly bow hunt and keeping it in the belt pouch takes me to much time and movement to get out or put away . I like grab , range , drop , shoot . Hope this helps . I've been reading your post about your elk hunt mess I was in the wilderness the first hunt with my son , we had a great hunt .I hope that jerk pays you back .

What I do is use a safari strap and put it in my pocket. This keeps it out of the way of my binos and not bouncing around. In the heat of the moment I can pull it out and use it. Then when I'm done I can just set it on my side and shoot. I have tried all kinds of gizmos and gadgets but I just find this method the easiest for me.

I just use the strap that most RF's come with and put it around my neck, I then tuck it into a shirt pocket, or I also use the Primos Preditor Vest and will tuck it into one of the chest pockets so its closer to my head and I have less movement when bringing it to my eye. Also I can then let it hang when im about to shoot and wont lose it.

My cousin just cut a small hole in his elastic bino straps and put a metal ring into it and hooks it to that. it keeps it right there on his shoulder for when he need it.

I just run the badlands bino harness and tuck in the pouch near my binos.. seems to work fine for me. If im in a situation where i need it quick, and quietly (for instance bowhunting) i just slip it in my pocket. The clip on the vortex ranger is awful handy..

I use a bino harness for the range finder and a badlands case/harness for my binos. The range finder ends up sitting right on top and a little behind the badlands. It works really good for me. It's always right there quick to get to and I can just let go if I am in a hurry.

I use the badlands range finder case. http://www.badlandspacks.com/rangefinder-case-hunting-accessory.html

It keeps the snow, rain and dirt off my lenses. Nothing worse then pulling it out and having it all fogged up. I will be installing it on this in the near future. Because I feel its the best smallest Bono cover on the market http://store.kuiu.com/product-p/80010.htm

right now its installed on my crooked horn bino cover. I can un hook it and attach it to my pack when im hiking in or out in the dark. Works like a charm. Here is my pack and you can see the straps for hooking stuff to on the top outsides. http://www.eberlestock.com/X2 Pack.htm

Beast,

Look at blacktail154.com some really cool products. Played with them at the show... Ordered a batch.

I attach it to my bono harness and put in my pocket. Looking for a better system though because I don't like the drag it sometimes put on the harness and it can hang to low if you just let it down in the heat of the moment.

I'm afraid a retractor will make a sound. Are they silent?
