Muscle strain.....

After not shooting all winter, I bought a new bow and have been shooting every chance I get. I strained a back muscle and have been trying to shoot through the pain hoping it goes away. Its not too hard to pull the bow back, but I'm not gaining much ground...... Should I keep shooting? Put it away for a couple of weeks? Or maybe back off the poundage for a bit? ....... What should I do?

Take some time off, you don't want to be shooting through the pain. It's no different than trying to run with a stained hamstring, it's not good. Try taking a few days to a week off and then see how it feels. By taking a few days off it may improve your shooting it has mine in the past.

I have a hard time practicing what I preach, but I agree, take some time off and let it heal or it might screw up your shooting.

+1 take some time off....3 to 4 weeks it's only early June. You will have plenty of time to dial yourself back in. If your on the edge of your draw weight it wouldn't hunt to dial it down a half turn or so if your going to leave it there. But to re-sight all the pins again is a lot of extra work unless you will leave the reduced poundage for the season.

Yes stop shooting, rest it up and tune it down.

If you have another bow that you can start up with (when ready) that you can turn way down, that would be good. Start slow when you get going again, you don't need to make a pull back in a few weeks and end up in the same condition you are now.

If you don't let it heel, you'll be fighting this into the season. Might not hurt to go see the Doc, maybe he'll give you steroids or something to help the muscle heel.

Good luck, go slow. nocwalker

Dealing with frick'n tennis elbow in my bow arm...More of a pain in the azz! Doesn't affect shooting as much as it does work outs, which sucks...A back issue is a lil more tricky and as said rest and maybe even some therapy on it might be in order...
