Peep sight twisting?

Hey there, wondering if any of you can give me some good advice on why my peep sight keeps twisting after 3-5 draws? I recently picked up an older bow-tech and the local shop told me a new string should fix it. After $100 spent still same problem. Any advice would be great. Thanks!

I know a lot of people hate them because they make your bow a little more noisy, but I use a peep aligner and attached tube to keep my peep aligned. I have a Bowtech Experience, and I was told that I wouldn't need the aligner to keep the peep centered because the bow has a good string on it, but after a lot of fiddling with it (both by the archery shop and by me), it was still rotating, so I attached the aligner to the peep. I have to have complete confidence in my peep alignment every time, and I use the aligner just to make absolutely certain that I can always see through my peep. That is the last thing I want failing on me in the moment of truth, so I'll take a little extra noise to make it more reliable. I know there are lots and lots of people who can get their strings to where everything lines up perfectly every time, but I haven't had such luck with mine.

If you figure out something that works every single time, and not just most of the time, I would be interested because I don't like the tube aligner; it's just a necessary evil for me at this point.

I used to fight the same problem for years, switched to a R.A.D trio peep sight and have never looked back.

Simply put a twist on the ol' D loop should fix it.

I'm not sure how many shots you have on your new strings, but it sounds like they have stretched a little. Go back to your shop and have them twist them a bit. After the initial stretch everything should stay put for a while.

I personally don't do this, but I have seen a few guys glue their d loop to the serving. So the d loop and the peep always rotate together.

It all comes down to how the string was made and installed. I make my own strings and I have zero peep rotation from the time its on my jig to the the first shot with my bow.

Things that will cause peep rotation.

It could have been served wrong. There is a proper way to serve a string and there are quite a few string makers that don't do it correct. When your string is on the jig and you apply tension and your string flag twists you have a junk string imho period!

When building a string if the stands weren't put on with even tension you can get peep rotation!

If you take the string off the jig and you loose the proper twists and have or have to add or take away twists to get it in proper tune it can get temporary rotation. This can and will go away after the string settles.

If you damage a string you can get peep rotation.

If a string is built with minimum strands and out of cheaper materials it can creep and cause rotation.

You might get rotation if you left your bow in a hot car but this can be fix with a twist.

My strings will last over a year shooting thousands of shots without any peep rotation what so ever. No need for cheap peeps and rubber hoses if every thing is done correct! The problem is 75% of the shops don't know what the crap their doing especially the big box stores.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-16-14 AT 09:06PM (MST)[p]I wont even mess with a junk rotating string but there are a few things you might be able to do if yours isnt to bad. Your string is twisted clock wise on both ends. This means there is a middle! You need to find the middle and see which side of the middle of the string your peep is on and then put a twist in the end of the string that will turn your peep the the correct spot.

You could tie in your d-loop so it will grip the string so when you pull it back the peep will rotate into the correct position.

You could add a rubber hose and cheap peep

You can also tie in your peep with serving and apply tension to the serving so it brings your peep around. I cant explain very good though.

Last but not least and I don't recommend this at all but you can swap one strand off one side of your string and put it on the other side side. This creates tension it also can wreck the strand but rednecks do what rednecks do.

If you don't know what your doing Id take it back to the store you bought it from and have them fix it. If you paid a hundred bucks they should fix it. Id replace the whole thing if I made your string and you weren't happy but I don't make strings very often because I hate making them and they take a several hours to make them.

Thanks for all the advice guys! I'm confident that I'll get it figured out now with all the pointers given. I appreciate your time in responding.

Thanks,
Cameron

Get yourself a quality string and your peep rotation will all but disappear. There are some great options out there, just make sure it is installed properly and shot a bunch to ensure the peep is in the perfect spot.

I agree with what has been mentioned above. I don't know what string is on the bow now but a quality string will not rotate and all major string makers have a warranty against this. I personally use www.60xcustomstrings.com and have never had an issue on my compounds.
