Last DECEMBER I DESTROYED MY SHOULDER IN AN ACCIDENT,TORN LABRUM,ROTATOR CUFF,DISLOCATED ETC.I HAD BOUGHT A NEW ZXT MATTHEWS SET AT 64 LBS.I WAS TOLD BY MY DR.NOT TO EVEN THINK ABOUT SHOOTING THAT MUCH POUNDAGE SO I HAVE PUT ON NEW LIMBS MAX OUT AT 52 LBS WHICH IS OK ON THE SHOULDER.MY QUESTION IS I WAS SHOOTING 100 GRAIN ULMERS EDGE BEFORE MY SURGERY.WOULD YOU ALL KEEP SHOOTING THIS HEAD OR SWITCH TO A FIXED HEAD?I DEER HUNT ONLY WITH MY BOW AND WAS WONDERING WHAT EVERYBODY THINKS.I HAVE HEARD GOOD THINGS ABOUT THE NITRON FIXED BLADE HEADS AND WAS CONSIDERING THOSE.THANKS

I think your going in the right direction. 50 pounds might be pushing it with your existing expandable broadheads. Depending on your existing arrows if your using the newer technology smaller diameter arrows, blazers, and a small aerodynamic 11/8 diameter cut on contact head you should makeup a lot of what your loosing due to your injury.

Personally I am older.....SO
Now shoot 56 pounds using Easton FMJ 340's total arrow weight 466gr. blazers, and 100gr. G5 Strikers cus I can not sharpen a broadhead to save my ash. Shoot same as field points to 70+yds. Total pass throughs on elk at 40 yds and devastating even if you hit big bones. So they can handle your deer.

Good luck and good hunting with which ever set up you chose and end up with using lower poundage draw weight. You will be fine.

I was thinking of your situation again. I would ask your doctor if there is any type of support technology that could assist in keeping the pressure off your injured area. Maybe a sports medicine therapist. The reason I suggest this is there are a lot of new stretch type taping and bracing technology out there these days. My wife watches ladies golf and Michelle Wie has some muscle strain issues. They tape her muscles in various directions to support the muscles and keep them from being injured further. Pretty wild looking stuff all over both legs. I was thinking maybe something like that could assist you in not injuring yourself further during the drawing back the bow process. Just a thought. If you find out something positive down that technology road please let me know because some day I might also need something down that muscle support line. :)

Good luck,

Thanks Trophyhunter,i have found out once you pass the age of 50 recovery takes a lot longer.Shooting every other day has seemed to help strengthen the shoulder.thanks for the advise:)

If you would like to stay with a mechanical head NAP now makes a Killzone low KE head that I think would fit the bill. With a set up like Throphyhunters FMJ 340 arrow and weight combined with the low KE Killzone it ought to be a really good set up for you.

Just a thought.
