LAST EDITED ON Dec-27-14 AT 01:49PM (MST)[p]Just wondering what the most essential extras are to throw on my bow. My wife just had twin boys! While I am extremely thankful, money has become a rare commodity around our house since she will be staying home instead of working, which is great. I am putting in for Wyo elk so my budget is tight. I will be hunting elk with a bow in September. Besides arrows, broad heads, sights and all the essentials. What would you guys say is of the utmost importance? String stop, stabilizer, etc? I don't want all the bells and whistles just the things that I probably should have.

I feel your pain/excitement with the twins. Been there done that (and still doing it).

Range finder for me. I suck at estimating yardage when I am in the woods. Stabilizer wasn't even that important for me. I found out I shoot just as good with my bow without it and it saved me some weight on my pack into my hunting area.

Try and squeeze out enought cash or credit to pick up some level GPS unit. We like Garmin, Great for marking truck, camp, downed animal. If you spot game and start a stalk. You most likely will need to drop your backpack. Mark it with a GPS so your can find the camo backpack when you return night or daylight. Real hard to find a camo pack in the woods.

LAST EDITED ON Dec-31-14 AT 05:36AM (MST)[p]Twenty-one years of back to back elk hunts have taught me this.Remember that simple is better. And less is more. You will be just fine with what you have. Most important things to have in the mountains is a NEVER QUIT attitude, good physical conditioning, and shooting accuracy should be second nature. The rest is all fluff. Equipment wise, the rangefinder is a must have. Have a great hunt.

Here's a little "fluff" for you but it won't cost anything.

I always tape or glue a little, wispy nylon thread to my upper bow limb. It's a great little wind detector, you can check it with a glance and won't affect accuracy.

Also, I agree with others: K.I.S.S.
