Buck: we just went through this with our Grandson. From the time he was about 8 yrs old we picked up what ever was inexpensive about $60 per dozen. He turned 12yrs old here in Kali so now he can hunt. So we started looking for a quality hunting arrow that he could use until he can pull 50lbs and we can get him into FMJ's.

As he was growing up we had his arrows cut 3 inches longer than needed to give him plenty of growing room.

So to answer your question:
I contacted Easton and got with a product specialist letting him know I needed a quality hunting arrow for a lower draw weight 30-40 lbs. Easton recommended purchasing ION 600 arrows. I had to order them through our local archery shop. You will never find those low draw weight arrows without a special order. We had them cut to 24 1/2 inches. Easton calculated the length at 24 inches but we added the extra 1/2 inch to give the arrows a bit more weight and growing room. In some States a legal hunting arrow must be at least 24 inches long...that is an Idaho rule. Also the arrow weight must be at least 320 grains. Easton contacted IDFG for me and got the spec's using the ION 600 as a legal hunting arrow in Idaho. To make the legal arrow weight of 320 gr. the arrow had to be cut at least 24 inches, using a 100gr.broadhead, adding 2" blazer vanes and knock total arrow weight came out around 328gr. Legal anywhere as a hunting arrow.
Hope that helps you decide on a hunting arrow. There are other 600 spine arrows out there in addition to the ION brand. So far the ION 600 works but because of the lower draw weight field points shoot different that broadheads come hunting season you must sight the broadheads in for hunting season. Hunting Season We have him shooting 100gr. G-5 Strikers

Hope you find some of this info. helpful.
